The Australian Government has paid $40 million to those impacted by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority's increase of no-go zones from 4.5 per cent to 33 per cent last year.
The figure includes:
119 licences bought out through the tender process
18 full business restructure assistance pay-outs (to purchase new equipment to cope with the changes)
383 simplified business restructure assistance payments
336 approvals for business advice
94 payments to individual employees.
The Government expects a further 300 applications for business restructuring/exiting.
Those seeking advice or assistance for RAP-related closures have until December 31 to make an application through the Queensland Rural Adjustment Authority
