    Fishos 200 - Labor Nil

Just got back from meeting in Bundaberg re Hervey Bay/Sandy straights closures.

Approx 200 Fishos made the effort to attend, as did a number of local councilors,
two sitting National members, one National Candidate and one Independant Candidate.

Labor was conspicuosly absent (one apology)

After listening to arguements against closures, Nationals announced an undertaking
that if coalition wins election the imminent closures of Hervey Bay and Sandy Straights
will be scrapped. The review process to be recommenced on an sound independant
    scientific basis, rather than ideology.

    Cheers Mick

That's great to see Mick, is Bernie Martin one of the candidates you saw? I used to work with him and he is a great bloke who wears his heart on his sleeve. Came a bit of a croppa in the last campaign, I think more to politcal naievity then anything else.

    Cheers

    Hi Hornblower

I believe Bernie was candidate for Hervey Bay in 2004, but don,t
think he is running this time.

No Hervey Bay candidates attended (probably not invited), as main
point of contention related to closures affecting land based fishos
in the vicinity of Bargara. Actually affects more than just land based
fishos, also affects spearfishers and boaties wishing to fish fringing
    reefs upto 1.5km offshore.

So mainly a Bundaberg/Burnett issue, however when the Tourists
flock there during school holidays, the kids will no longer be able to
throw a line off the rocks.

However as I understood the Nationals undertaking, the current
review of Hervey Bay/Sandy straights (as it stands) would be
scrapped in its entirety, if coalition wins election.

    Cheers Mick

Thanks Mick, I just don't understand why labor are persisting with all this nonsense. It doesn't make sense to try to destroy a good old aussie past time. One of the few things that generations of families can do together. Ah well, I suppose they have destroyed the Hospital system, the water system, the education system, the criminal justice system, the road system, ...

    Yes Hornblower, definately nonsense

Last night one old fisho, who has been a resident and fishing from
the various rocks at Bargara for sixty years, claims the fishing is
almost as good as ever (if you know where to go).

Another who has been diving and spearfishing the area for forty years
    had similar comments.
