    On "TEAM BEATTIE" 2/9

I found this on the Team Beattie Web site today, dated 2/9.

I think the rec fisho's have got the Labor party well and truly rattled about our opposition to any closures in the bay.

When was the last time you heard any politician mention the humble fisho ?

Now , Beattie is constantly trying to tell us that he has no plans to shut us out of the bay.

Well done to EVERY ONE who has done their bit to get our message across.

I beleive the Labor Party or any Party in Government will think twice before making any closures anywhere.

And if they do try to close any waters. look out. They know that we will make ourselves heard.

DON’T TAKE BAY FISHING BAN BAIT

There would be no mass bans on fishing in Moreton Bay if the Government is re-elected, Premier Peter Beattie and Deputy Premier Anna Bligh declared today.

“The Coalition and other political interests are behind a scare-mongering campaign to deliberately bait fishers,” Mr Beattie said.

“For the Coalition to suggest in a policy document that recreational fishing may be banned in half of Moreton Bay is mischievous and designed to cause maximum concern.

“They are out to hook the naïve and gullible.

“Unfortunately, some fishers have taken the bait and may be unnecessarily concerned about the future.

“There is no plan by my Government to shut out recreational fishers from 50 per cent of Moreton Bay.

“Nor will my Government jeopardise the important commercial fishing and boating industries.”

Ms Bligh said the Moreton Bay Marine Park zoning plan was to be reviewed after 10 years.

“The review is due to be completed in 2008, and hasn’t even started yet,” she said.

”If we are re-elected on September 9, we guarantee that mum and dads, their kids and others will be able to continue to ‘wet a line’ in the Bay.”

Ms Bligh invited all parties to contribute to the review.

“I urge all stakeholders, including the mums and dads who take their kids fishing or boating on the Bay, fishing clubs and commercial fishing interests to get involved,” she said.

“We will involve representatives of all major fishing and boating groups in the development of the review.”

Mr Beattie during the election campaign has announced a policy to hold 100 free fishing clinics for up to 3000 youngsters over the next three years. He also announced a $1.5 million three-year plan to restock dams and other waterways to improve our freshwater fishery.

And he said a re-elected Beattie Government would spend more than $40 million over the next three years building, upgrading and maintaining public boat ramps.

“My Government has a proven track record in looking after people who fish – and we intend to build on that record,” Mr Beattie said.

The consultative process will only work if you have a powerful force on your side.

Team Beattie will hopefully listen harder if The Fishing Party polls well on Sept 9th. They are starting to appreciate the value of the fishos vote, and understand how we can hurt politicans that ignore us.
