Thread: Protest Convoy posts here Please

Re: Protest Convoy posts here Please

I do not believe that regular rallies are the answer. One big rally that makes alot of noise is better than several with low attendance. I am all for another rally, but the timing and a much wider promotion is critical. Too soon and it will lose impact with the media and the public.

I was not asking for everyone to take a sickie, but many do to go fishing. Surely this protest was more important than one days fishing? The list of excuses is endless, but ultimately it all comes down to how important continued access to Moreton Bay is to you.

How many of those who couldn't make it to the rally have contacted Mitch to offer to help out with the election campaign for Shane Boese? That is something worthwhile you could do instead.

I'm handing out how to vote cards down at Cleveland on Saturday. Sounds like Brian Webb will be my side kick for the morning. Would have loved to have been at the rally but was working at the boat show at that time.

Congratulations to those who participated. Got home in time to watch the rally on the channel 2 news. Great effort guys!!!

    Well done MBAA 40,000

Protest group, the Moreton Bay Access Alliance is going to deliver thousands of postcards protesting against further closures of the Bay to the Premier this afternoon.
To follow up on its boat convoy on Saturday, representatives say that thy will have about 40,000 post cards from residents, seafood lovers, commercial & recreational fishers and boaties to deliver in crab pots.
The first wave will be delivered to the Premiers office at 100 George Street Brisbane at 1pm.
"Given the 400 strong boat convoy and post card campaign I can only imagine just how many other people want to participate" said Donna Browne, the chair of the MBAA.
"Ordinary fishers and others who want to be able to buy fresh seafood feel incredibly passionate about this and have indicated they are here to help us with the long haul ahead.

There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

The Redcliffe Herald thas this article on their website, not sure what is in the printed version yet.

    SEPTEMBER 6:

    Convoy floats its ideas

The fight has only just begun, according to fishing lobby group the Moreton Bay Access Alliance.

The group mobilised 400 "boaties'' in a two-pronged convoy from Clontarf and Cleveland which converged on Parliament House last weekend, protesting a a possible closure of up to 50 per cent of Moreton Bay to fishing activities.

About 100 people came from the Redcliffe Peninsula.

Alliance chairwoman Donna Brownesaid the convoy proved the point that all anglers were serious about protecting their interests.

``We had boats of all sorts in the convoy and the atmosphere was electric,'' she said.

``We'll continue to lobby to ensure fair and sustainable use of the Bay so fishers and traditional users are not locked out.''

The anglers stepped up its campaign to sway the Government in its 10-year review of the Bay with a hand-out of 40,000 post cards to the public from crab pots in Brisbane on Tuesday .

Ms Browne believed the group's continued action had strong public backing.

``Given the 400-strong boat convoy and post card campaign I can only imagine just how many other people want to participate and support us,'' she said.

``We're really concerned any closures of Moreton Bay to fishing could cost more than $1billion to the local economy in lost jobs, a decline in the seafood industry and a form of recreation.''

Outgoing Sunfish Queensland chairman Bill Turner said the convoy had achieved a good result with major parties confirming anglers would not be shut out of the Bay.
