KC get me the facts on GSMP

Got a reply from the Premiers dept to a letter I wrote (Rob Whiddon- chief of staff)

Apart from the yada yada and not banning fishing in Moreton bay, it said and I quote

"the Beattie govt has a record of looking after people who fish.
In the lead up to the recent rezoning of the Great Sandy Marine Park, a similar fear campaign was mounted and proved untrue. The Beattie govt guaranteed continued access to fishers - with 96% of the marine park still available for enjoyment recreational fishers"

Set me straight with the facts please so I can pen a response (I need to be able to check the facts though)

    All comments appreciated.
    Thanks.

Mate, on the 31st August 2006 Bastardry ran Rife in Beattieland ...oooops I mean Queensland
The following relates to verifiable quotes from the online " Environmental Protection Agency announcement " made by The Premier, Deputy Premier & Minister for the Environment (they were and are supposed to be in Caretaker mode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) .
From the Environment Minister Ms Desley Boyle "It will stretch from Baffle Creek in the north to Double Point in the South AND wraps around Fraser Island. "
Ms Boyle also boasts that quote "at 6000 square kilometers is nearly three times their size" in reference to the increased size of the Great Sandy Straits Marine Park and that absorbed .
Both The supposed Caretaker Premier Mr Beattie and Caretaker Deputy Premier Ms Bligh made various comments to unsubstantially justify this action and herald the demise of established Federal and State Parlimentary conventions relating to Caretaker Governments...refer Office of the Premier Website on "Caretaker Government Conventions".
If Television reports of another 40,000 signatures opposing zoning expansion being delivered to Parliment House which as said the reporting is accurate would mean approximately 100,00 persons in SE Qld have signalled their rebuke of any zoning increasing. Given these figures, it would therefore equate to just under 10% of the SE Qld population (if the figure of 1.28million persons in SE Qld previously bandied about by the pollies is correct that is)

Mate I wish I had more time for this but I am swamped. Come back next week I can help you out more. I believe the details are on the EPA website. I believe 4% of the GSS is now green zones. I believe the entire GSS section of the GSS park is a modified yellow zone, which imposes some restrictions on rec fishing but allows commercial net fishing and trawll to continue (as oppossed to a GBR yellow zone which bans all types of net fishing).
I believe all the beaches on the ocean side of Fraser are yellow (& in some cases green).

I need some more time on this and just don't have any.

In broad brush terms TFPQ did a detailed submission in regards the GSS rezoning.

We got a fair hearing up until the 11th hour when we were lied to by Minister Boyles office...and this is not too strong a term.

From our perspective the jury is still out over GSS until we have some input from our Hervey Bay members and the fishing community as to the actual effects and implications of the rezoining.

Sorry if this is not enough but I am too swamped by election s%$

Re: KC get me the facts on GSMP

Sandy Straits marine park is a load of sh*t. The yellow zone inside the straits restricts the rec. fisho from the number of fishing lines while the red horizontal lines show in fine print that the pro's can do what they like.

On Fraser most of the other beach is a yellow zone so only one rod can be rigged or in use at a time so you couldn't have a tailor outfit and a dart/bream outfit rigged together at any one time.

In a nut shell, screw the rec fishos and hand it to the pros.

Thanks guys and thanks KC. Sorry I should have waited but I just got a deeper interest quite late.
KC do what you have to do and we'll catch up at a later stage.
I'm now one of your members and I will as time allows get more into the thick of things. I'm much for facts and the real deal though but thats all cool when the truth is on our side.

Thanks again, take it easy and all the best.

Re: KC get me the facts on GSMP

Send me an email to kc@whitsunday.net.au and I will send you our very lenghty submission document on the GSS rezoning. You can then see what we got, compared to what we actually asked for. It would be a good starting point if you want some background .

Our submission was in response to the wishes of just over 500 fishers who attended a public meeting we held in Hervey Bay just before the rezoning and after lobbying got the submission dates extended by 30 days so we could write a decent and well researched document.
