TFPQ Realistic expectaions
Now that the hype is over and before the numbers are actually posted it is prudent to be realistic in terms of our performance today.
Bear in mind we have only been at this for 2 1/2 years and it takes a long time and a lot of work to get voters to change their voting patterns.
I figure is 20% of the population are fishers and 1/2 of those a committed passionate fishers we need 6 out of every 10 of these to vote for us to get a "pass mark"
At the last election we averaged 6.2% in manned booths. This is our benchmark.
Some pundits on this site have already said our vote will reduce now that RAP has died down in NQ.
I think I even have a bet for a packet of minties about this somewhere.
Our stated aim is not about winning seats, just as the Greens will not win a seat.
Our aim is to make the fishing vote a potentailly more "attractive" block of votes come preference time than the green vote and as such influence policy of the major parties.
6% will be a pass mark. This will vary seat to seat but if we average 6% it would easily equate to an elected TFPQ senator at the next federal election.
8% will be a victory as this will outpoll the greens in the seats we contest.
10% will be NEWS in every paper in the state....and have the political parties already scrambelling to talk to us before the next federal election.
Over 10% & don't call me before noon tommorrow....i'll have had a few quite rums.
Best guess. between 7 & 8%

Re: TFPQ Realistic expectaions
Shanes over 8% and Todd over 11% at the moment, still not pipping the greens in either seat but that should be enough to get peoples notice.
Congratulations TFPQ.
Cheers BB
You on the rums yet KC?

Re: TFPQ Realistic expectaions
Thanks mate,
just sipping the first one now. Looks like maybe 9% average and that is a really big result. If we do that in the senate election next year there will be a fishing senator in Canberra.
Last election I got it spot on with 30,000, this year is better than expected.
All good. Yes it would have been good to outpoll the greens but we have just about matched them and without the experience, the budget, the staff or 30 years of history.
The fishing vote is now very real and about 3 times bigger than Family First.
Always knew fishing was a religion.

well done Shane and Todd [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]. Expect a call or two from Premier Pete when it comes to the issue of bay lockouts.

wont be any ph calls if the momentum is not kept up, thats how the greens got where they are. Like a terrier dog, just gotta keep nibbling away.
