    Alan Jones' comments

I have to admit that I am not a fan of Alan Jones, the broadcaster, but his commemts re marine parks and the interview that he conducts with an expert on fishing sustainability that Nugget has on his website is quite compelling listening.

Go to Nugget's site at http://nuggetfishing.com.au/

It amazes me how much influence he has, for a guy who produces a show that is a load of claptrap. I read an article about him once, one of the guys who used to work on the show said within 4 months of helping out on the show he recognised half the callers by voice, because it was the same people calling in again and again. It's propaganda masquerading as debate. The problem is, those who follow him take him seriously and are very devoted....

Well, well, well, and bullshit it is! They are lieing to us, and it all comes down to a, how can we keep our selfs employed and what can we do to
to gain points with our own interests in mind.

This hole fishing under mining just makes me sick to my stomach, I thought population might be the reason for their actions. but I guess i have a lot to learn.

I listened to this interview and it just confirmed an opinion I have had for quite some time.

In relation to some of the stats that the ' noteworthy " guest had offered, it appears to me that Australia is a very good looking proposition to our friends to our north.

Take into consideration the amount of un-tapped resources in respect to the marine fishery, add to that our huge mineral resources, expanses of land, primary industries, a defence force that numbers the amount of cooks in the northern neighbours defence force and a civillian gun buy back that took millions weapons out of service !!!!!!!!!!

Call me paranoid if you like, but no one can argue that the biggest single issue to pre-war situations throughout history was......apathy.

So, no use having a single hit out once in a while, these sorts of interviews must be heard frequently.

whilst i agree that the monkeys up north, would like to have a shot at us, i believe any such action from them will not suceed. 10 men wisley led, will beat a 100 without a head. and we got our big brother, uncle sam. the adf, has to be, aguably the best in the world, (some new gear for them wouldn't go astray!!) there are a huge number of battles, skirmishes everyday, that aussie soldiers are in (all go unreported) and we have not a fatality at the hands of the enemy in recent times, add to that, our harsh terrain, our intelligence ( not our goverenments! ) and the fact that if the indo's do land, they will not have the fuel to carry out any attacks. not wanting to turn this into a debate. i beleive we should be more worried about our own goverenments management of our industries rather that an attack from a poorly organised under resoured nothern neighbour

I do agree on all fronts Lippa. WE must concentrate on the present Governments ability to provide a sustainable fishery. Certainly the influences that govern these decisions should be made by Scientific evidence and not by pressure applied by lobby groups.

AS for my other comment regarding Australia being prime real estate for a foriegn body........... Yes, I still believe they have an eye on us, but probably are baulking at the idea of attempting to take a piece, due to Uncle Sam and our own reputation.

No need to fret over someone invading us Phill..that ain't going to happen...as the majority of the polulation is in the southern half of the continent..extremely difficult to maintain supply lines across such a vast area.

    PLUS:
big brother has some very strategic interests here....Forbes radio telescope is an integral part of their space program, Tindall air base, Pine Gap and the Longreach over the horizon radar. PLUS: they have a substantial Indian Ocean battle fleet...other than Diego Garcia Naval Base, Australia is the only guaranteed friendly ports they can come to in a crisis for repairs etc.

back to the original post...Jones and Laws etc do have some power by sheer weight of numbers of their listeners...they are both very powerful men. They are similar to Sir frank Packer and Rupert Murdochs father back in their original newspaper days days..they could make and break governments and they often did. The masses sometimes are not all that intelligent and setting an idea in motion by one of these powerful people can soon grow into something very large and unstoppable. That is not deriding any of these people...they get paid huge salaries to be like that and they do it very well.

    An interesting fact -

Indonesian maps have Australia marked as Irianjiya south, they see Australia as part of thier territory.

    Whats that all about ?

Re: Maps, not disputing your comments but I never saw that on any of their maps, I have first hand experience with TNI maps and non-Indo mapping agencies / Intel etc. However, their are are few problems with their maps, e.g. they don't even know where their own borders are, hence the reason for a few tiffs involving things that go bang and some of them never getting up. Did you know that Indo troops also train on Australian soil and are trained by the ADF using our technologies and methods.

There are large numbers of Indonesian's in make shift camps around the northern most parts of Australia's mainland, we dont have enough people to patrol and keep them out eg; illegal fishing boats

Pink mist in 99 means nothing to me !!!

Yes - but the level of training, what is taught and who recieves the training varies, generally the Indo's and many other select foreign (asian / non asian) countries complete Officer training here but the numbers are extremely limited, generally on exchange or due to diplomatic arrangements, actual methods and technologies are not covered to a very high degree, certainly no higher than could be recieved anywhere else in the Western world. What methods and technologies are you refering to?
Troops as you state (lower ranks, non-commissioned ranks, Private soldiers) are as a whole not trained here! They have at times conducted joint training exercises with the ADF and occasional one on one international exchanges do occur but they are still not privy to classified information! Only Australian personnel (with suitable clearances) are able recieve such training or information.
I have worked with Indon soldiers on execises, then faced them in East Timor, even swapped cigarettes with them at a border crossing, they were wearing our Australian Paratrooper Wings that they felt they were entitled to wear purely because they completed one Para jump with our Battalion (go figure ?, that pissed me off). However, I have generally found them to be nice people.

As a country they enough internal political issues and problems to be of immediate concern, never the less they are still a concern. It is their leadership that is of issue, most of their Army are poorly equipped and trained, being as they are conscripted for two years compulsory service. But the size / total numbers of their force is very large, Indonesia has an estimated population of approximately 245 million people (as at July 2006). Huge!

Pink Mist = the effect of a 7.62mm or 5.56mm round (bullet) has on a human target.
99 = This eluded to conflicts that occurred in East Timor 99.

    Cheers
