Legal Sizes, Fish ID etc
Howdy All,
There has been a lot of talk in the saltwater section especilly in regards to fish ID's, legal sizes etc I forget who suggested it but the idea of having ID charts/booklets with size limits in Bait & Tackle Shops and at popular Boat Ramps is a bloody good idea.
More needs to be done by the Government and us fisho's to make people aware of the rules and most importantly where to go to get the info they need!
Should we petition the Minister for them to do more about getting info out there? Maybe update their website to include pics of the species likely to be caught in SE Qld so you can have a way to ID fish?
What about the local fishing mags do some artciles on fish ID's, legal sizes and bag limits?
what's everyone's thoughts?

I'd like to know how you go if you catch a fish in NSW that is supposed to only be in QLD so doesn't get mentioned in NSW legal sizes etc.

On the back of most tide tables which are given away in tackle shops are legal size limits for that particular area/state. You can also check out the fisheries website for more details and get booklets - this url is for the QLD site
http://www.dpi.qld.gov.au/cps/rde/xc...1_ENA_HTML.htm
At the end of the day it is up to us fishos to make sure we know the rules, size and bag limits for the areas we fish - if you go fishing in an estuary then you can be reasonably sure what sort of fish you are likely to catch and know the limits for these species.
If you don't know what the fish is or if it is legal size then let it go - it isn't worth risking a fine for keeping undersize fish and claiming you didn't know isn't a defence.
