    Old Woman Island

    Hi all,

MY parents stay at mudjimba beach on the sunny coast and i've been out to the island on the ducky, but id love to camp on it. Any one ever camped the night on it. Any one know a charter boat up there that would drop us off with sea kyacks and then pick us up the next arvo and not charge a mint.

p.s will the law be pissed at us for camping on it .

I believe someone used to have the elase on the island and lived on it.

I remember a few years ago the elase came up for public auction/tender..... so i assume someone still lives on it. Does this then make it private property so you cant go on it?

It would be a state government issue, so maybe parks and wildlife can help you?

Yes someone used to have the lease on it. I dont know about anymore. But no one lives there. There is just an old shack on it. I dont think anyone would care too much if you camped there, but getting access onto the island itself isnt very easy. I doubt that a charter opparator would want to take his boat to close to the island.

i used to paddle over there from mudjimba and surf it most weekends. There isnt really anywhere to land a boat over. There is one spot where you can get a small tinnie in but it is dangerous and you could only do it when there is no swell at high tide.

I havent been over for a long time but i know some fisherman used to do overnighters due to the fact that they would leave old tackle bait beer cans and rubbish there.

It is a far, far better thing to have fished and lost, than never to have fished at all.
