FISHING AND CAMPING FOR COD S/E QUEENSLAND

8)Does anybody know of a great spot to go camping and fishing for cod and yellow belly.looking for a place that is suitable for the hole family to enjoy, with plenty of shade.Facilities or not doesn't matter as it is camping afterall. are there any properties which allow you to camp on for a small fee etc.
Thanks in advance for any info, # # #Duckman
PS: if there are any yabbies as well even better, it will help keep the kids interested.

HI, you will need to head west a bit. Leslie Dam near Warwick is probably the closest at about 2 hrs from Brisbane. The camping ground is very treed, with toilets, hot and cold showers, drinking water and a kiosk selling ice, snacks, and a bit of fishing gear. I don't know whether you have a boat or not but they can be hired there as well.

Further west there are places on the MacIntyre brook near Inglewood. One is on the main road, I can't remember which side of Inglewood. Fitzy would know. A place that we have camped at twice is Kurrumbul Homestead near Yelarbon. It has three campgrounds on the banks of the Dumaresq River (pronounced Damerrick). We have caught Murray cod there, but they are very temperamental! Haven't seen many yabbies there. It cost us about $15.50 a night for two adults and two young children. They have flush toilets and hot showers at the main homestead, and thunder dunny's and picnic tables at the river front campsite. In the same area there are stock reserves that are free to camp at, but have no facilities, and any tom dick or harry can walk in and take your gear. (Don't know if that actually happens much, though)

Also, the people who own this property are very helpful, very friendly, and anyone who goes there should treat the place with respect. There is seven km of river frontage that you can explore. I reckon it's a great place.

Forgot to mention that behind the campground at Leslie Dam there is an old quarry which has become a series of ponds. Absolutely chokkas with yabbies sometimes. Have fun!

The area from Warwick, Stanthorpe to Inglewood has a host of areas to choose from, if you can make it to Glenlyon dam, some 90 ks west of Stanthorpe, you will find one of the best cod waters around, great facilities from tent sites to cabins, or give Stanthorpe a try at Storm king dam and sample the local wine while you are there. No camping at Storm king but some great National parks nearby that the kids would just love.
    Happy camping,
    The Goodoogetter.

8)Use to fish alot in western NSW and Vic at Brokenhill and Mildura that can get freezing in winter and boiling in summer but fishing is the one thing I love to do, and it gets u away from the rat race. The country views alone when traveling are great way to spend my weekends.
It's so green around the Gold Coast area coming from Mt Isa It is a pleasent change.

hi duckman, there's a place out at St George,"Kapunda" its owned by Ric and Sharon Williams, 35acs 1klm river frontage on the Ballone. it started out as a bush camping/ fishing park, but now Ric has put an amenities block(2 sh- 2tlts) he still has the bush camping aspect happening with open fire places to cook on,just with a liitle bit of comfort thrown in. he has some powered sites if u prefer that sort of thing but we just usually take the tent and tarp. He will take u fishing in his boat or u can hire a canoe or just fish from the bank. He has bait if u need yo buy any we normallytake a shrimp trap along . its only 10klms from town and just past the Dalby t/off on the Surat Rd. we've always caught fish out there, just depends on how much water is in the river. its a great place.
