First thing to do is season it. You should have received instructions with it for that but might I suggest that instead of heating it over a fire to season it you put it in the oven at home. This will give a much better even heat over it during the process.

The best tip I could give anyone is to buy a book on using a camp oven. One I have is called "Camp Oven Cooking" and written by Jack Absolem. One of my better investments. Most camping stores should stock it and at less than twenty bucks worth every cent.

Remember with a bit of time and care you should be able to cook just about anything in it you can in the oven at home.

    Cheers

Mon I am no expert on the cooking department but there are a couple of things you have to be careful of with a steel oven. As these oven are made out of mild steel and have a negligible content of carbon compared to cast iron they will rust very easy if not looked after. Another trap is that you must use only coals or heat beads and not use any unburnt wood as you can quickly have a hot spot in the oven, it also helps to rotate the oven when cooking. Another reccomendation for this type of oven is to partially bury it or keep it out of any wind.
As for recipies I got Viv Moon's camp cooking book from the library and I found it quite a good reference book for all camp cooking including camp ovens. Another plus for the book is the ring binding that allows to book to lay flat.
I have added the book to my christmas present list.

Thanks, I seasoned the oven and cooked the first meal. Roast lamb with potatos. The lamb was superb the potatos were a little over done. But great any way.

    Cheers MON.
