Hi all,
I've just brought a new swag.As i unfolded it the smell of the new canvas was overwelming.I've been airing it out over the past few days , but the smell is still there.Do i need to wash it ? or can someone tell me another way.Any advice welcome
Thanks steve
Not real sure about smell, I guess you could try hosing it down....but interested in what make and model you've puchased as I am in the marked for a new swag also.
Hi leeroy_6,It's a ultima swag. It's one that is held up by two poles at either end. With a canvas cover .And under the cover is fully enclosed sandfly proof mesh.it cost $520 with poles, pegs.bought it from the new camping store at lawton in brisbane.
regards steve
flytime, you should waterproof it while it is new, set it up and hose it down (sprinkle). That will let the cotton in the seams swell. when it is dry I always rub bees wax or a waterproofing compound over the seams.
Lay it beside the campfire bloke [smiley=2thumbsup.gif] that'll get the new smell out real quick.
Have a Darche dome swag that's going on 10 years old now - never applied any waterproofing to it. It has been through some nasty New England storms and stayed nice and dry - have I just fluked a good one??????
I have just purchased a Burke & wills "coolabah"
gave it good trenching to seal it
cost around $460 top of range for this maufacturer- 15 Oz canvas miggie proof screen also a 2 pole type
I am 6'3 114kgs still heaps of room in it for me had a smell to but the fire soon got rid of it
Thanks for replying to my question Looks like the smoke from the camp fire is the go
Hope to be using it this weekend at inskip.going up to chase tuna on fly .If the whether holds out.
regards steve
Hey fellas,
Just took the plunge on the weekend and upgraded to a new double swag..Down Under Brumby. After much deliberation i decided on the Brumby as a few mates have them and haven't had any problems, they also seemed to be the only one around with heavy grade canvas 15/17 oz, which should last through the conditions i will be using it in. I'm not going to waterproof as my mates didn't and it hasn't leaked at all.
Should get a good workout...off to cape york for 2-1/2 weeks at end of month.
Catch ya, Lee
Hi all ,
Used the new swag on the weekend.Best bit of money i've ever spent. It was blowing 30 knt's,put it up , hopped in and never felt more comfotable and warm.In the morning i rolled it up .Put in the back of my prado, and i was off fishing. Too easy!!!
I highly reccomend the stand up modles with two poles at either end.( and the smell of the new canvas has gone )
regards steve
Approx 70-80 years ago a bright person invented a thing called a tent now a day's these things called tent's are made from super light weight fabric and are water proof.
These tent things are half the weight of SWAG'S and twice as much room inside(if u fart u won't choke)
And guess what you can buy a tent for half the price of swag and a trap as well!
