Best place to camp for lookout access
Thinking, if the weather is good, next weekend is a long weekend for me and would love to camp somewhere nice with reasonably good access to south passage / lookout fishing. I have heard days gutter is good, but wondering if there is any other info i should know or places etc.
Thanks

Re: Best place to camp for lookout access
flinders has some drawbacks but some big plusses & some crosses nearby too XXXX
theres only one set of waves to contend with on the way in but u will need to extract the rig from the water as its very exposed to the north
amity camp ground is worth a mention reasonable protection except from the west & if it does blow up you can motor the rig into the basin (wallum pool) which has good access currently & a nice high bank protecting from westerly winds

Hey JB, just wondering whereabouts you would camp at days gutter? Pretty much all mangroves or the front yards of the houses at kooringal.
If you are happy to pay the $200 bucks to get over to the Island with the boat there is good launching at Flinders like the fellas said - even camp at Adder rock out of the wind - the gutter is about 300m north of the 4wd track.
If your camping out of the boat amity would be the go or bradbury's near one mile where the m+g was.
cheers, kris.

Re: Best place to camp for lookout access
go amity then J,
you can camp with full & decent facilities on grassed ground within line of sight of your boat as long as a strong westerly isn't about in which case your boat will be safe but out of sight - theft from it a possibility if it can be waded to but rare, you have fuel & a well stocked shop close by, the local sports club for eats & a drink, the jetty is an unreal source for live bait - a bus service to the point lookout pub & you are 5 mins planing from the south channel of south passage bar - 10mins from the northern entrance
at this time of year the insect pests are virtually non-existent
