Make sure you put good ventilation hole in the bottom and top so the flame gets enough oxygen .

    Fantastic site,
Just wondering if someone may be able to post pics and instructions on making a spit. I was looking at either the 44 g. If you are after portability perhaps a beer keg would be the go. Not sure as im totally novice in this regard. also with the beer keg you could easily put it on a trolley and use heat beads. i imagine it would be a lot lighter as well as less cumbersome.

Re: plans to make a spit

Hi darren, some pics to give you some ideas, this is not finshed yet but it might help. Drum for spit, old fuel tank from dump (clean properly) 1300mm Long x 650mm Dia. have used 200L drums before, but found i had to weld another half on to get the length i needed. Originally i used windscreen wiper motors to drive spit but found it to be a pain with the belt drive and pulleys. I now use a 240V gear reduction drive motor that attaches direct to the end of the spike, PM and i can give you the name of the manufacturer ( are expensive ). Have used heat beads now changed over to gas, easer and cleaner to use (gas fittings from dump, good idea to have gas fitter check and install if need be). When you make yours, design a rack (removable) to fit in the middle of the drum and you can use it as an oven if you dont want to use the spit, i hope this helps.
    Cheers MAL.
