As I posted on another post I was keen to try out the Weber Rapidfire Chimney Starter. The following series of 7 photos will show you how it works and also introduce a new muffin recipe.
Cheers
Derek
The Weber Rapidfire Chimney Starter is a metal cylinder with a grill at the bottom. As it says in the name it rapidly brings your heat beads to coals. You can see in Photo 1 where the heat is concentrated inside.
At this stage in photo 2 I was getting a little worried about the ceiling on the verandah. I put 24 heat beads in it and had coals in just less than 20 minutes. I have never had coals less than 40 minutes in the past so worth the $40 I paid for it.
Well it worked and with all those coals I had to cook something so I rumbled through a recipe book and found Chocolate Rum & Raisin Muffins. I’m a bit partial to rum in cooking and ice cream.
INGREDIENTS – Makes 6 large muffins
1 Cup chopped raisins soaked in a ¼ cup of Bundy Rum
1 ¼ Cups self-raising flour
¼ Cup of cocoa powder
½ Cup brown sugar
½ Cup chocolate bits
1 Egg
½ Cup melted butter
½ Cup milk
METHOD
Mix flour, cocoa, sugar and chocolate in a large bowl. In another bowl mix together beaten egg, melted butter and milk. Pour this mixture into dry ingredients and mix well but stop as soon as it’s combined. Spoon into paper muffin cups in a muffin tray. Place into a moderately hot oven and cook for 20 minutes.
Yes!!! Another muffin recipe! Now that's what I like to see! I'll be whipping up a batch of those beauties as soon as possible! I looooove chocolate. Thanks Derek.
Now, for the chimney. I've been using them for many years and I agree with you completely. They are the only way to go. You don't even use lighter fluid. Just add the starter bricks (or, if you're cheap like me, old newspaper scraps ) and you're all set. You don't get that lousy lighter fluid taste on your food and the coals get hot super fast. They're great.
E.C.--now where did I leave those muffin pans?

So Derek, I'm not that experienced with Weber's & camp ovens, but after the coals burned down, did you just lift of the chimney and place the camp oven on the remaining bed of coals? Did you put some on the lid too? How long did you cook the muffins for?
1 cup of flour
1 teaspoon of baking powder
pinch of salt
enough milk to make a wet dough
Want to make a bigger damper then just increase the quantites. Basically for every cup of flour add a teaspoon of baking powder, bigger pinch of salt and milk. To that recipe you can add whatever you like.
One good variation is to make a two cup basic damper and add half a cup of sugar and a cup of raisins that have been soaked in bundy rum overnight.
