Hey fellas I put a post in 4x4 but I think it should have gone in here.I want to know whether to tow an offroad 4x4 camper trailer up to the cape.It dosnt have shocks but uses xtra heavy duty axel and leaf springs and 31 " all terrain tyres.Built as an "offroad" camper trailer.

hi reefraider, well i personally have only driven as far north as archer river, but i think common sense plays a large part here. slow and steady wins the race mate, sure i,ve heard of blokes breaking axles and springs, but a lot of them havnt got the right gear and are travelling way too fast, like its a f-cking race or something. i would recommend a poly offroad coupling for steep gully/creek entries and exits, and dont pack stuff too high on the trailer so as to make the centre of gravity too high. i know a guy who rolled his trailer(with tinnie on top) because he was going too fast trying to keep up with his mate in front(who wasnt towing a trailer).have plenty of time up your sleeve and ofcourse do the journey in the dry mate. good luck
the trailer has a treg style hitch.Do you know if the corriguations flog out the bushes in these hitches, I am just wondering how many spares of things I should take. Thanks for the reply
Reefraider, Mate the best advise that I've ever seen given on this subject let alone this board about driving to the 'tip' is that given by Waznot in his reply, I'm a rank amature when it comes to this trip as I've only done it twice, both times in Jan - Feb (not my choice). Take 'heed' of Waznot's advice and have a good trip mate and enjoy the sights and sounds 'cause it won't stay that way for much longer.
