    Re: camping bed

One of those double bed, fully sprung, rubber based, fleecy lined, soft as ones. OH, for camping, yeah well, why not, except for space.

Not sure Jeff, but good thread, and I NEED the answers.

    Re: camping bed

Tried this one out last time I was back. Fold up steel framed camp bed that folds down to about the same size as a camp chair. Put a 4 inch thick foam mattress on top which rolls up and doesn't take up too much space.
Much better for dragging my fat arse up in the morning. Only problem is that is has a bit of a longitudinal sag in it. So I ditched the pillow and it was better, but sleeping on your side still curves the spine a little. If I could get a thin dense filler of some sort to fill up the sag, then the foam mattress on top, I reckon it would be just about perfect.
I like this style of camp bed better than the cross legged one with the aluminium rails along the side coz it doesn't have the hard rails, and doesn't tip when you sit on the edge.
    Hope it helps.
    Cheers

PS hope the photo is clear enough. It is basically made of the same stuff as a nomad camp chair, except it a bed of course.

    Re: camping bed

I have a Carribee self inflating double bed and always manage a good night sleep on it. Nothing worse than waking up sore. It does take up a bit of room but, about 1.2m long and 30cm round when rolled.

Like the way ya got right into detail, with your response Rob.

Yes, we bought a ' self-inflating' double bed. Rolls up to about 1.5 wide and nearly 50cms round. Trouble is trying to ' deflate' it, ya need a vacumm cleaner to do it, and the powerpoints on Fraser are few and far between. And on top of that, the sucker was NOT comfortable, at all.

    Re: camping bed

The only consistently good sleep I have gotten in the bush is on one of those tailor made camp mattresses, we now have 2 one double and one single. I have tried that high density blue foam and a few camp beds since non give a sleep as close to home as a camp mattress. If you do chose one there is no substitute for quality foam and as usual the price and brand (hopefully!) will reflect that. The double takes up a bunch of room when packed but now the missus demands it and the single is slightly larger than a swag rolled up but due to the extra thickness more comfortable.
There is no substitute for a good nights sleep when camping!

Never been able to sleep on air beds but decided to get one of the self inflating types (after seeing a mates). It is a LI LO queen size.Inflates in about 2 min comes with built in foot pump. When deflating you just take the pump out.flat as in about 30 sec.Get a pretty good night sleep on it only thing we will add is one of those cheap woolen underlays.Get them from campmart for around $90.00

    Re: camping bed

We have a queen size self inflating mattress
    I think its called a "4x4 mat"
It dose take up little more room, but i have found it very good ( wifes not complaing so thats a good sign)
dosent matter if it gets a hole in it , but dose take a bit to roll it up
The trick is to roll it up then put bungs back in, then unroll with bungs in
undo two bungs and roll up agian
Wife and i do it easy now
If you get a single one , you should be able to do it ok by yourself

i got mine on special at the camping show on the gold coast for $130

have a look at them at the tinne & tackle camping 4x4 show you might get a bargin

    Re: camping bed

I saw this new set-up at the Camping Show in Sydney the other week. Its a bed the covers over to be a small tent. Best part is it adjusts to be level on any ground. Too heavy to carry if hiking but great to leave in the boot & get out when you need a kip. The bed itself was super comfortable.
