Re: should I keep the 950w Generator xmas present?
I got one of those 850's just to have for power blackouts, when it was found out how bad the energex system was run down.
A mate of mine works for them and he told me it was possible to put in a point and a couple of switches ( All Legal) so when the power goes out I just plug it into the meter box throw the switchs and have light and fans through the house. .........It is NOT running power points....... Larger gennies can be setup to do the whole house.
We have been lucky so far only needed it twice, but I use it for small jobs around the house to save running leads for power tools ( OUTSIDE) works a treat.

Re: should I keep the 950w Generator xmas present?
I actually used it to work on my boat 2 weekends in a row. Bloody hot up here in Townsville and park next door to my place has some lovely tree cover (shade) - parked the boat under trees in shade and used the Generator to use 2 different drills (one Makita for a long time buffing the boat - polish - wax) and then used angle grinder to do a bit of work (playing) on the boat. All worked fine. The more powerful drill did make the generator work everytime you pressed the go button (on drill), but seemed to do easy.
I just had the generator in back of ute and ran a lead - very easy and they're so easy to start I just started the generator when I needed to use powertools.
I'm definitely keeping it - light enough (28kg) and I've tried it running 2 x 240volt fans and my camping fridge - did it easy.
