Eyre peninsular--Free camping?
Gooday Guys, Has anyone free camped around from Cowell to Ceduna of recent times? We plan on spending 3-4 Months over there fishing for King George Whiting and getting our share of sandies as well. We have the Camps Books which are good ,but you can't beat "Knowledge". We would particulary like to be able to launch the tinny off the beach at the site. We hope members will enlighten us to the BEST spots. We will be there in March this year.
Cheers and Thanks --Brush.

Re: Eyre peninsular--Free camping?
Where are you coming from? (Just being nosey now)
I grew up in Cowell as well a spending some time in Tumby and Streaky Bays.
Most town Caravan Parks have great camping facilities, however, if you want to rough it a bit more, the beaches south of Cowell (Flat Rocks, The Knob, Pt Gibbon etc) are all suitable for camping and have areas set aside.
Arno Bay and Port Neill I dont know much about apart from the Towns themselves. There is a great beach just North of Tumby Bay, and do you think I can remember its name? It has an island just offshore which you can get to at low tide and, on the left hand side of the island is all beach, while on the right hand side is all rocky. Great fishing here, but cant remember if there iws access to the beach for launching.
If your tinny is big enough for the journey, launch at the Tumby Bay Marina ramp and head out to the Joseph Banks Group of islands. I have never seen King Georgies like I have seen them there, thick as your forearm and way too big to be kidney slappers.
Smoky Bay has some great camping sites and also great fishing at times I can reccommend that you give it a go there. From Smoky through to Ceduna, any of the towns in between will provide sake launching sites all with great fishing. I am not all that familiar with that side of the Peninsula i'm sorry.
If you have any more specific questions, please ask and if I can I will help.
You lucky B@$ted
Cheers,
Geoff

Re: Eyre peninsular--Free camping?
Thanks Geoff, Smokey Bay is where the "books" tell us to go, and we will check out your suggestions too. We are from Geelong originally so have caught many "georges" but not the size that we expect to catch over there.
We will leave Moore Park Beach ,QLD around end of Feb. and take about 3-4 weeks to get to Eyre.
Thanks Mate , Cheers Brush.
