    G'day Scott..

as far as I know its still ok to camp there,
no fees ,no permits, no fires, no pets....

Ring the Dept of enviroment Cleveland office
    for confirmation.

Snakes can be a bit of an issue , tho...

    (RBB's and Browns)

and those hairy little catapillars that the Missus hates...

I spoke to the rangers a few weeks ago about camping on Peel and yes you can camp there. As long as you take notice of the no camping signs. There is one in Horseshoe right down near the eastern corner. There are toilets in the middle of Horsehoe Bay, finally replaced after some loser burnt them down. >

    Enjoy camping there

    Hi Tracey,

Did the Rangers say if fires are permitted?

Not having a joke about the dropkicks who torched the dunnies, I'd genuinely like to know as it seems a great spot for a weekender or overnighter.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    hey 2iar
to be honest I can't remember whether they said you can or not. But I am pretty sure you can't. I have never seen any evidence of campfires in Horseshoe (apart from the toilet block) HEHE
I found their phone number in the phone book. But not a good idea if you need to know quickly, they took a few weeks to get back to me.

It is a great spot for an overnight trip.
    Cheers

No fires allowed on Peel at all, including Horseshoe.

2 things to remember about camping at Horseshoe tho:
1 Plenty of DAY TRIPPERS ... so if it peace & quiet ur after, forget it.
2 S/E winds blow straight onto the beach, seen it turn into a surf beach in minutes

Other than that a good spot for a weekend camp, but I reckon Blakesleys is better ...

    Cheers,
    Tony

    Re: Camping at Horeshoe Bay

    G'Day Dazza,

Yeah its a nice spot. Camp fees apply, you can get them online from RSC web site I think. Good sandy area, gets popular on long weekends and holidays etc shelted from all winds except anything with a westerly in it. Tide does go out a bit but no more than Peel did on the weekend as you saw. We haven't overnited there, but spent plenty of day trips there tho, lot less traffic than Peel.

No problem for the next family M&G there, as long as my back's ok tho ...

    Cheers,
    Tony

Pardon my ignorance, but where is "Blakesleys".

I'd be up for the next M&G (couldn't make the last one, and it looked great). I even have a Haines :-)

    Good luck,
    Mike

ol bloody hell not more Haines'

Hey guys, more than welcome to join us, not sure when the next one will be but more than likely sometime in Feb. Easiest access is from Reddy Bay or Vicky Point ramps.

Overniter sounds good, but I'm going to actually use the fishing rods next time plenty of easy access spots available from Blakesleys too.
