Re: She comes home after 5 years
Now for the dim and grotty life she led out of our care,
Travelled to the gulf and lost her top on the
way home, when a road train went past...... Insurance claim.
Been to Melbourne and all over the east coast a couple of times. So as you see she is ready for the
good life again with someone who cares for her and keeps her makeup looking good, and like some girls
needs a bit of Body filler here and there to fill in the line of showing her age a stich in her clothing and a
bit of extra support on bit that are drooping and sagging, She got new shoes about 6 mths ago so they should do her
for the rest of her road days with us. her front step up, was one of those drooping bits, have given her some major surgery there
and should be able to refit soon, when she returns from the Brake guys and the Gas / Roadworthy Guys this week.
She is looking better every day and should be out for her first trip to Double Island on the 17th - 19th Feb and yes she will bare the Ausfish Logo on her stern.
My daughter wants to give her a name and she has come up with Boomerang, but we need time with her to re connect with her sole
before the naming is carried out.
I mentioned about the same smells as went we owned her popped her up today and had a look what was under all the seats.
All our old Tarps, sea grass matts, water containers, floor mats, matches, roll of plastic bags, it was all still there and much more.
Amazing how someone can get something and not do and personal touches, or renew the floor mats, i think if we left a can of bake beans it there they would have still be there, now they would be good for the first camp fire dinner.
It has been a lot of work getting her back to what she was but the work is enjoyable because of the enjoyment we had together.
The first time she gets bogged on the beach will remind us of her very first trip with the Green horn beach driver I was back then, in a Jackaroo 1982 diesel power plant.
Work i have done to her consists of:
1) Wheel bearings these were done prior to us selling her.
Remove and check, R/H outer ready to collapse... replaced Inner and
outer
L/H removed and checked... the grease was like tar and
bearings had been hot at some stage ALL Replaced.
2) De Rusted and sanded all wheels Inc spare and re painted
3) Breaks done prior to selling it 5 yrs ago ( Drum ) R/H 3/4 worn... L/H No
linings left.
Off to get new one fitted Monday.
4) Pressure washed all the underneath when we got it 15yrs ago.
I coated the inside all timber and under floor with lin seed oil, then
painted the underneath the floor, all the steel work.
and had the lot rust proffed underneath, apart from some flaking of the
rust profing it is still
in top nick and now after I re did all the steel work with Kill Rust again
she is now ready for the rust proffers again.
5) Lights need the earths looked at. Clearance light need replacing.
12V inside lights need to be replaced.
This is only day 2, but things like the canvas ( Her Clothes) will need
attention, but still in good condition.
Cupboard doors were made out of chip board 15 yrs ago. Need some
new ones but the rest is a lot of cosmetic changes
we intend to do.
Same as you would with a home Reno. Should have it done buy the
time it is handed down to
my daughter in 5-10 yrs.]
6) Re manufactured the front step.
7) This will not end here. I feel that it will be one of those un finish
able projects that take a life time to do.
For all the sentimental reasons for keeping this old Fa?t occupied.
