    Woody Head

Just wondering if anyone has been to Woody Head camping area? I have heard that they have a boat ramp there, but seeing that I havent been there thought I might ask if anyone has. Any information would be appreciated.

The boat ramp at Woody is off the beach suitable for some boats but if your boat is heavy or big you may have to go to Illuka

I always stay at Iluka when I go down there (every June or July), but I have driven in to Woody and had a look. The camp ground seems OK, fairly standard and in a very nice location - behind the headland on the northern side. The boat ramp seemed pretty good for a beach location, but I wasn't there at low tide, so I'm not sure how you would go. The rocks of the headland extend northwards for a while creating a fairly sheltered location behind them. This gives pretty good protection of the ramp if there's a decent sea running (not that you'd want to go out in those conditions anyway). There's a good ramp in Iluka (right beside the pub) but you'd then have to cross the Clarence bar to get outside, which can also get a bit hairy.

Made a point of checking it out a couple of days ago on the way through for future reference . It was low tide when I looked at it . As said already it's in a bay sheltered from winds from the SE but it could get some chop in a northerly I reckon . Cement ramp but is sanded up at the bottom and low tide is like a beach launch . A 4wd. would be a must . Looked like it would handle a reasonable sized tinnie but not sure about a glass boat of much size . Am sure the kiosk people could tell you for sure .

Thanks heaps guys for the info, going to take the missus down there this weekend to get off the coast, and try out the new tent, hopefully not much swell, and will be able to get the 4.2m tinny out for a troll.

    Cheers again
