    Re: brunswick heads holiday

I hope I'm not breaking any rules tipping a fishing spot (or coming across as a know all), and you might already have left for Brusnwick heads already, and so it'd be too late to help.

But if you're land based, and not used to such I just thought I might have a spot you could try. If can make your way to the north wall on a day with a raesonible overcast S/E . Tide filling in around 10 am or so,maybe earlier if it;s a small tide..You want the water building as the bommie is still going under.

Walk out only as far as the bommie that's in the "V" between the main wall and seagull rocks (it's the only one there. An average cast distance off the rocks, and about 1/3 the way out along the wall). Toss some slugs around that bommie, as close to it as you can (slices are better, but dearer of course, and you're going to loose a couple). If you can time the slice to land actually right ontop of the bommie as the wave rolls over it, whichh will wash the slice over the drop off onto the beach side of the rock, you can do exceptionally well for good size tailor.

I'm sure it's no secret where the decent holes and spots are for tailor in Bruns; but just thinkin if you're usually a boatie, you mightn't be too clued up on every little spot there, and this one often goes un-fished as it looks too close tothe beach for most to try, and too costly on gear for others. but if you time your casts, and keep the lures moving, it's suprising hor few you can get away wth loosing.. That one I just mentioned is good; but don't be shy about landing the lures right ontop of that rock as it's exposed, but aticipating the wave to pick it up as t hits. Or just after more likely.

Can cost a few bucks in slices, but when that wall's been shoulder to shoulder flogging the water to foam with pilchards; that one little spot on that bommie has coughed up the only fish of the day many a time, and in dis-proportionate numbers at times too.

As the slice washes over the rock with the force of the rolling wave (so long as you time it right), using a Spinfisher or similar; as soon as that bail arm comes down it's not unusual to have a fish. And it's rare the choppers hang out on that rock, they're usually the better fish.

    Good luck.

Wow, nice little insight there Rob, makes me feel like jumping in the car with the spin gear and a few lures and driving a couple of hour to Bruns to hit theat spot.

Very generous to divulge information like that, it certainly isn't breaking any rules. There should be more of it.

    Re: brunswick heads holiday

I spent many years in Bruns. Mis-spent youth, and young adult life. My parents moved there when I was a teenager, and so I came and went for years.

I've never had a "home town"; but Bruns will always be where I feel at home the best.

That bommie is really a part of "seagull rocks" (the natural rocks which are the original headland on the nth side). Wading out through the surf on those rocks is a little scarey if you go it alone, and you really do need a person to show you the way to get out there the first time or two. But an hour or so at the very bottom of the tide there spinning from those rocks can be exciting. Even when tailor havent been caught for a while, they'll always be there. Drummer too, but I never gave them the go, but I have seen the evidence.

So if you really like that kinda fishing ( I used to before I ruined my back), it's always worth the drive mate.

    cheers
    rob
