Wouldn’t surprise me , with all the different closures it will be getting hard to know unless your on social media . It’s all a bit confusing for the average rec angler who just wants to go for a fish
A bad days fishing has got to be better than any day at work......

Yes same for me it was hard finding info on no more Gill net Fishing (End of Netting) from Bundy North from this Nov to january for different areas of Queensland which if true may see some fish recovery for our are area here and guess
cuts on both sides of the fence if both occur ??.
What i find confusing is one hears all this in the passing of the wind and not on the media??.

Its Nannigai that will be next with some of the numbers (percentage of unfished biomass) being bandied around..

Definately be a drop in both individual and boat bag limits in the next year or so and hopefully a reduction in commercial quota..

and gill netting to be phased out along the east coast first and then the Gulf as well I think.. ..

    https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/c...g%20practices.

When we have seen the proof of the pudding in the Fitzroy river and the incredible fishing to be had there since netting was stopped, its exciting times ahead for Estuary fishing once the nets go ...as well as being fantastic for all the critters that are killed in the nets every year......

No one gill nets the Great Barrier Reef so I’m unsure what there talking about phasing out the gill nets in this area it’s only line fished.

It’s interesting how banning netting will save the world, yet a closure to rec fishermen is an outrage, but taking someone’s livelihood away is great news.

That’s what it says in that link that’s how I read it

The use of gill nets is being phased out to better protect the threatened, endangered and iconic species of the Great Barrier Reef in keeping with its world heritage status.

Theres a difference between the great barrier reef and an estuary or river system .

You really cant see, even with the benefit of hindsight over your lifetime, that for the survival of our natural resources and humans as a species, we may have to start looking at more environmentally sustainable ways to live on this planet..?

Possibly many of the gbr species spend time in mangroves and river systems ?

Mangroves and estuary’s are the nursing and breeding grounds of many species.
