Up north the trevely would have eatten it up as soon as it hit the water.

And further south, the silver drummer, or the WA versiopn, buffalo bream. We were staying aboard a lovely old 50 foot motor cruiser in Shark Bay, mooring wasn't far from the South passage. The old-style head went straight over the side. And the boat was then surrounded by 15lb buff bream happliy chowing down .

Yeah, you don't let it hang around too long, but the potti seals it well enough so you get a bigger choice in when you drop it over. Especially relevant if you are in a sheltered anchorage which may be shared.

Reminds me of my younger days when guys fished near Luggage Point, we called the bream Churchill Bream for obvious reasons.

I just roughly line it with paper...then straight over the side...porta potti might be alright on land but on a boat it would be sloshing around and just like cooking up a turd stew in midsummer wouldnt it..?...yukk..!

I've never had one leak at all. And depends on how many days you're out, whether to put the chemical in or not. Once chemicals go in one has to find a dump point or bring it home. Mainly for the missus privacy really.

Yeah but like you say you still have to deal with the turdstew at some point and dump it and clean it up...its not for me...

BTW where do you put it that the missus can get privacy..?...Down in the cab..?..or do you have a Centre console /bowrider configuration..?

It is a dilemma for longer trips unless you have a 7-8m boat where you have enough space in the cockpit area or down below for a dedicated toilet/ shower cubicle..I have also seen trailer charter boats where there is a head in the centre cab/console for the paying guests on daytrips...

I have one bouncing around in the back of the 4by in between dump points on some camping trips in National parks. No issue with leaks etc. I just use a few spoons of napisan, all good, and inert once activated. Offshore, I thought that's what telescopic ladders were invented for haha - right up until the bat fish get a bit too inquisitive.
