The down side to rubber tortion axles is they rust out from the inside....your first clue is they break in the middle when towing.

How dangerous is that if it happens?

If you are lucky the two halves do not separate before you stop....

My uncle has a tortion suspension axle under his cruisecraft...Sold the boat to a guy that drove to Brisbane to collect....he got to the far side of Ipswich on the way home when it broke. The axle looked fine from the outside but was only about 1mm of steel left in the middle, rusted out from the inside. My uncle helped the buyer out to get him home with a new axle....they met half way on price.

I pulled one out from under the ol 5.2KC yonks back and realised it needed replacing. Alko didn’t have them in stock and there was a 3-6week wait. I decided to covert to leaf springs. Wouldn’t have torsion axles again. The ride was far rougher on the boat than leaf springs.

Agree, i wouldn't have by choice. And there is bugger all travel in them. Was it much trouble to convert to rocker leaf springs? Weld the hangers and get an axle to size?

Converting over “should” be simple enough, probably best to either make or buy a complete bolt on assembly.

Are bolt on assemblies for springs available?

Yes, you can buy all the parts, or complete kits, Google a couple of trailer parts places and see what will suit your trailer frame. I have used a place in Brisbane a few times, good prices, great service and stuff delivered to my door (in southern NSW) in a couple of days. Usually I just use my local boat shop

I had issues purely because the muppet that supplied them sent me the wrong set. The ally trailer already had a Gal bracket that the spring hangers were able to bolt to. It was an easy change over.

We had a tension axle on a camper that rotted from the inside and collapsed all of a sudden , it was a pain
