Yamba offshore August

Gday guys, just after a few pointers for yamba. I normally do a 10 day trip to 1770 in August but due to a few reasons I have decided to try Yamba for something different. We have hired a Air BnB on a canal with a pontoon for 10 days from late July. The intention is to get offshore as much as possible. We have never been there so any info is greatly appreciated.
I am thinking close ground for shallow water snapper if the westerly is blowing and deeper water if the weather allows. I would like to try for some deep water fish (barcod, trevella) if the weather allows also.
Is the 60-70m area good for snapper and pearlies similar to the Sunshine Coast?
Should I be heading north or south of the bar?

A lot of the hot action will be in close ..... particularly snapper

good fishing in 6-70m but if looking for snapper try the 7-15 m area infront of redclif, brooms head area. Most of our nice snapper (not monsters) but around the 5-7 kg are in 11-12 m so easy fishing in the am with a chilly westerley.
When it's closer to the date flick me a message and hopefully i'll see it in time to give you an update. I live in Maclean and fish off sandon in a 6m sea adex typhoon.

Gday Scroman, thanks soo much. Very helpful info. 5kg snaps are the best for me I think. No doubt the trophy fish look great in the box but I find the smaller ones seen to taste a bit better. I’ll be sure to contact you in a few weeks.

Yes we get tons of them down this way during July and August. can be a pest if fishing deeper waters for other bottom fish. They are pretty tasty so dont mind too much. A bit hard on rigs need thick wire as they have teeth like side cutters

I have the big gun hooks and multistrand wire specifically for those tasty morsels. Unfortunately, no longer have a boat and the person I was going to venture out with has moved away and no longer in the fishing scene. Thanks for letting me know they still come in during the cold months.

Gday guys, just a bit of a wrap up on the trip. We left the sunny coast on Friday 28th for a 10 day trip. We arrived just after lunch, unpacked and put the boat in. As the house had a pontoon, we had a practice tying it off before running to the bar to get a track for an early start. the bar was flat so we slipped out to try for bait quickly. Plenty around so got a few for Saturday.
Saturday was a perfect forecast so we hit the wide grounds. Found good ground in 90m for leather jackets. Disappointing!!!! Headed deeper and every show was leather jackets. Hit 180m for first drop snapper, 2nd drop pearly thinking finally away from LJ. Next fish leather jacket. They were thick everywhere. Some lifts were 3 fish from 3 hooks.
Headed out as far as 450m. Nothing caught but tiny bites in every depth which I can only assume were LJ. Whole day was total glass.
Sunday we though we would stay close. Hopefully the LJ were only in deeper water. First drop behind Freeburn rock in the dark, small snapper. Then nothing, nothing, nothing. We went everywhere we could find or had been given marks for and still nothing. We did find an incredible amount of slimey mackerel everywhere we went but.
Another glassy day all day.
Monday we started at South Evans reef. Bream, flathead, a few small snapper and nothing else. Went wide of there to a few wrecks for nil. Headed home after another glassy day all day.
Tuesday we went south again, loaded up on slimies and caught 1 good parrot for the day. Another glassy flat day all day.
Wednesday was windy so we pulled the boat out to refuel. At this point the decision was made to come home on Thursday instead of Monday and fish offshore Caloundra as the weather looked ok all weekend.
We washed everything up on Wednesday and drove home Thursday leaving perfect weather at yamba forecast for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to get home to wind. Very disappointing. We couldn’t see any use in travelling miles and catching nothing. We fished some of the best shows of ground and fish I have ever seen for nil.
Total 4 days fishing, 460km for 449lt fuel for possibly 15 average fish.
Thanks to the guys that offered marks and tips but it just didn’t work for us. I will stick to what I know and fish the Bunker group.

I would have tried my luck for those tasty jackets, unfortunately got no boat and fella that was offering trip has moved. I still got the hooks and multistrand wire. May as well throw them out.
