    Stessl Apache Hulls

It's been a while between posts but I'm thinking of buying a new Apache Pro 520 and was wondering if anyone knows anything about these hulls?

I haven't even had a chance to see one let alone go for a ride so any opinions would be welcome.

They look ok but i see that 50hp is max i would have thought it would be 60hp or 70hp for a 5.2mt but its a light hull at 315kg as you say you haven't been on one so that would be my choice see it the will water test one with you before i would hand over any money.

The 520 will take a 90hp tiller which is my plan

That will get it moving on a light hull.

    I'm hoping so Chris.

I was just talking to a bloke in Tin Can Bay this morning who has a Stessco 550 with a 135hp Mercury tiller steer which has a top speed of 47kts.

I'm very tempted by that one

Gee 47 knots in a tiller will have your cheeks flapping around in the breeze he would be running down jet skis with that thing.

Interested to hear your thoughts about the $$ for it. (not wanting figures, just your thoughts when comparing Stessl to other brands or custom building).
In my research for buying a new boat at the moment, I touched based with Stessl as I like their Coastrunner, but when I looked at the dollars, and the lack of really being able to customise, for a pretty basic boat, they are right up there with the $$.

Corry, I had a look at them before buyng my chinese supervee...

Some of the things that turned me off was they only have a 4mm hull bottom and at the time thay didnt have a checkerplate sealed floor option..(at the time the centre cab was just a console screwed down onto carpeted plywood)..but now that they do have a seald floor option they raised the deck around the cab console but not high enough to take advantage of the extra space available for the cab under those areas and same with Formosa, Quintrex, TABS etc...and I thought overall they were pretty average for the money asked...Tim Stessle is also building virtually the same boat but calling them Makocraft..

Have you looked at Rebel, Omm, Svvenson etc and even Nobles have been building Supervee's again in Brisbane..?..a couple at the moment are being built for Fisheries research boats.

I wonder what the cost difference between those more factory line boats cost compared to the smaller QLD builders is these days...4 years back Jacob Noble told me he could do a 6.25m Supervee Centre cab(6.7 LOA) for a about 50K for bare hull...Of course it would be more now...still might be worth having a ring around and get some rough quotes...

The problem isp that the factory prodction line style of boat focuses on one style for a while, local yards are full of quintrex 430 fishabouts, before that it was brezezabouts. And not a centre console around, all going Side Console.
So if you want one of their other lines it's got to wait till their run is over and then they slug you for it.
One of the sad signs of our times is that we have demonized those who produce, subsidized those who refuse to produce and canonized those who complain.

One of the big issues, or challenges I've come across is lead time. I fell completely in love with the Centre Console from AMM, but when I started to enquire about it, it was 2026 before the build would start. That to me is way to long to wait for something to be started, I'd guess delivery would be 2027.
I think I'll be shopping the 2nd hand market, look for something as close as I can get to what I want, then mod from there.

Corry the price for the 520 with 90hp yamaha tiller, yamaha guages, custom console and a few other bits and pieces was around 46k with a 2-3 month build time.

However I am waiting on pricing for a heavier trailer as after a few calculations last night i figured I'd be right on the limit of that trailer with all the gear i want to add to it.

The Stessl is only a 3mm pressed hull which seems to be pretty standard for a lot of these types of tinnies and being a tiller steer I'll have the best seat in the boat.

Fyi the Formosa 550 sc starts in the low 60k and goes up from there.

I’ve got a 2019 Stessl 485 Apache Pro side console with 60 hp Honda had it for past 18mths and I must say I’m pleased with it rides very well tracks well pretty dry well finished. I was very nervous making the switch from fibreglass to aluminium I’m now retired and wanted something easier to launch & retrieve economical and more robust, its fitted all those needs and I’ve got no complaints.
