Ok so our awesome QLD state government has rolled out their plan for keeping us all safe from Crocs in the north...
No..not culling..they dont think thats an "effective risk reduction measure"..
But physical barriers on waterways(fences I guess..?) and sonar and AI intelligence software at boat ramps to detect crocs in the water....

So there going to roll out lowrance or Garmin live scope everywhere up north I’ll have to drive north and get me some of that new technology for my boat.
lm thinking a motion activated siren and a red flashing light to alert the dumb people might be cheaper.

Your joking surely , maybe they could use animal behaviour experts to teach the crocs not to eat any one .
A bad days fishing has got to be better than any day at work......
Why not just give free trips to potential Darwin Award winners to visit. It would be a win/win situation, crocs would be sated and the human gene pool will improve.

I get why measures were originally put in place to protect them. But I don't see why there is a need to have a full protection strategy and why they can't be harvested in a sustainable way, just like any other species.

Harvesting eggs is worth a couple of million a year for the NT....a good portion of that provides employment for indigenous rangers in remote communities...

I dont see why strictly regulated high value trophy hunting on a permit system in remote areas cant be allowed either....I reckon a small group of avid trophy hunters would pay a fortune to shoot a Salty and keep the skull and skin.....
You dont need a gun just s good size hook and throw out a big bait to catch the fish of a life time.
...you had me up until this point. It's the F'wits that think shooting a crocodile in the water with a 12 g slug or similar is something worthy of legend. These are the people the croc should eat. Trophy hunters should end up as trophies...it's only natural.

Trophy hunting is not my cup of tea either but it is a "thing" and those people do pay stupid money to kill their chosen animal and its usually tightly regulated...besides millions of animals are killed every day..I actually just finished eating one..
Personally I cant see the difference if a large problem croc is killed by a Ranger or contractor or by a high paying trophy hunter....and I'm not sure where you live but many a croc up here in FNQ is killed on the quiet by farmers and even fishers if they are causing a problem .....its just something to consider as croc numbers and sizes continue to increase...

Its going to be hard to police the crocs out in the reef areas as some one was attached snorkeling out at harggerston reef .
You would expect it to happen more regularly as the croc population keeps increasing every year...its likely more and more will be pushed out of estuaries in search of new territory...
We saw a few yesterday down the Hull river...biggest was about 3m and 2 were less then a metre long so I guess at some stage they will be pushed out into the sea to cruise along the beaches, around the islands or wherever they go when they are chasing new digs...
