yeh it was him that got me understanding the charge curves and balancing and his recommendation to go the PowerPaul active balancer which is cheap and works a treat. I Do like the tough build of the Daly stuff though.

If the Daly balancer doesn’t do the job I’ll get one of those heltec active balancers yer the Daly bms seem to be very well sealed to keep out moister that’s wha it liked about them .

Out off curiosity did you by a power supply to top balance your cells first??? Or did you just leave it to the balancer to do it’s job.

The PowerPaul active balancer is actually a Heltec balancer that he had them custom make for him so that it doesn't constantly balance and only balances once the cells reach 3.43v. For mine, I put them in series and charged them up to 14.2v until one cell hit a high voltage disconnect. Then I dismantled the pack and put them in parallel for a day. Came back and tested the cells and they were at the same voltage (but the voltage had dropped to about 3.41v.) then I put the pack back in series and let the balancer do the rest on a 4amp charge.

If your cells are out of balance by a lot the balancers won't work. If one cell hits 3.65v before another hits 3.43/3.45v then the balancer won't have time to do its job before the OVP shuts the BMS down. But if you get them top balanced at the start and have an active balancer fitted that starts balancing at around 3.45v, it will happily keep them balanced each time you charge the battery.

Oh and BTW. This is part of the reason I’ve built my own. I can’t imagine how a lot of these reputable battery manufacturers are keeping their capacity ratings high on batteries that have had a lot of cycles over a few years. The vast majority of BMS’ out there simply can’t do enough to keep cells balanced unless you charge them to full constantly. While the cells themselves have the capacity still, the imbalance between them has to get great enough that another capacity test 18 months down the track has to show a lower capacity

Got my kit lastnight and the first thing i noticed was how good the Daly wiring is the active balance cables are married in too the bms cables hence making for a cleaner build just going to get a power supply and ill start building.

Just use jabida.bms. heaps.better app. Balances as well. Order yr own cells. Can probably build at leastn2 of your own with change with same or better components as powerpaul (jabida eay better than daly. I have had both)

Cells apptox 200 ea 280 ton305ah 6000cycle eves. Jabida bms sized to yr application. Use amy chen. Will.get a grade matched cells. Job done. Only headaxhe is case

You can make a case out of anything or you can buy a sunfun kit.
