thats from running them to low voltage shutdown with the waeco fridge

itech do a cheaper 100 ah battery now for around 600 but it physically looks like all the other cheapies out there
So they might be 125 amp cells then in the kings 120amp ive seen a test on the 200amp kings and it just made it to 200amp,when its all said and done if they just get 2000cycles out of a kings battery thats like 7years draining them and charging them every day, i just luv the weight savings and ease of carrying them.

That’s at 100% draw too so If you don’t draw so low you will get more cycles

I’d go through two lead acids every 3-4 years and normally through lack of use

for 2k I have 400 plus usable ah for a good three days fishing and camping which along with the sounders and electric I can run some lights and the fridge.

i also don’t have to drag the generator or solar panels around either for locals to knock off out of the car while it’s parked either

if I get 7 years then that’s a bonus too

That’s good to hear Steve. Do you have access via Bluetooth to the itech BMS? Do you know what the low voltage cutoff is set to?

Lovely80 I don’t have Itech batteries just the kings specials
they have no Bluetooth data option hence part of the reason they are cheap

I saw on another lithium battery chat here a you tube clip from a guy that built a 280amp kit and cooked it by putting to much charging voltage way over 14.6volts or over 3.65volts doing a top balance going by how bloated the cells were they looked like a blown up wine goony bag but they still worked to a point but he has stuffed the cells big time.

Apparently the cells bloat due to the electrons passing front one side to the other through the carbon layers and it makes gas which in turn bloats the cells but i thought the cells had vents in them for that reason and going by the off grid garage guy Andy it doesn't matter whether the cells are packed tight or loose they all swell.

It was the interesting to see what happens when you stuff up charging a lithium battery with the wrong voltage.

Yeh 14.6v is the max and really 14.2v is all that is needed to fully charge LifePo4 cells. Even lower if you want a longer time to fully charge. Chris if you do go down the build path I highly recommend putting in one of Power Paul's active balancers. They do a great job of keeping the cells balanced. Combine it with a 250a BMS like the Daly and it should be a great combo for you.

Chris. you didn't say what you are going to use the battery for.

Very hard to judge quality on a lithium cell arrangement from looking the the case. I still remember Will Prowse pulling the latest cheap cells on the market ( in the US) apart to see the contents. After load testing them, of course. They ranged from a horror story to actually very good. Quality of cell ( known brand), quality of BMS and wiring, way they are all held together inside. None of them were ALL bad--some had good quality cells let down by a poor quality BMS, some had really bad wiring that would likely fail with any kind of sustained vibration, some were just held in place with loads of mastic. Many didn't have good clamping around the ( prismatic) cells--prismatics will expand during use if you let them, not good for them long term. Good quality setups have a heavy steel case clamping them together.

So, a cheapy might be good for a year, or two, then problems can arise.Something which might be fine sitting under your bench as backup power might fail prematurely when exposed to the vibration from a caravan or boat.

EDIT--Just watched Will's video posted above, its been a while. Only one of the cheapies was garbage, the rest anywhere from OK to very good. At the end, he makes the point about how far things have come in the last few years, and how some companies have held expensive pricing while their competitors are putting out stuff which has really caught up in quality, but a lot cheaper to buy.

Anyone got any charging advice ?

i ordered a new charger as old one went kaput and just replaced like with like

    https://www.victronenergy.com/charge...t-ip65-charger

seems it’s lithium’s ion only and I now have lifepo batteries
Guess I bought the wrong one as can’t adjust the voltage as high as the battery specs want for charging 14.6 volts

These are programable beyond the preset options.

It's been a good charger for me for 5+ years now.
