Thread: Fibreglass deck hatch

    Fibreglass deck hatch

    Hi All,

Does anyone know where I could buy deck hatches in SEQ, or Aus, like the one in the attached pic? Access to my rudders is poor so I want to install a hatch above to allow easy service access. Especially should something go wrong at sea. The one in the pic is from a USA website. I’ve sent an email to Cruise Craft, but no reply yet.

Have a look at BLA website, they have a number of recessed hatches.
One of the sad signs of our times is that we have demonized those who produce, subsidized those who refuse to produce and canonized those who complain.

Thanks Sam, but I’m yet to find anything off the shelf in Aus that suits my needs/is close to the type I pictured above. Arnold’s fibreglass can make me whatever I want so I will explore that option and go from there.

Getting one made may be the only way. Did you try Wynumn Marine, they were rhe Cruise Craft outlet.

Have you checked out Whitworths theres some very expensive ones and some cheaper ones but Im thinking that Arnolds might be a good option going by the prices ive seen have you thought about an alloy one?????.

    Re: Fibreglass deck hatch

I haven’t tried Wynnum Marine, but I did email Cruise Craft. Whitworths and the like don’t have what I’m after. Alloy hatches are horribly expensive, and will be very hot to walk on. I’ll wait and see what Arnold’s price is like.

From recollection,Darren Nichols owns both Cruise Craft and Wynumn Marine, I'd be giving WM a call.

Thanks. I’ve checked Plaztec out but would prefer fibreglass. I might just go a deck plate for now and see if that gives me enough access.

FWIW, I ended up getting two of these hatches from Enlightened Boating at Caboolture. These are the guys who make those lovely little Cross Country boats. They were very helpful and accomodating of my needs. Next challenge is fitting them.
