    Check your bow line fellas

Just a little story on what happened to me Saturday morning, 4am at the Dohles Rocks boat ramp, only one trailer parked and nobody around, reversed the boat in to have a session tagging flathead, held the bow rope and pushed my 4.3mtr tinny off the trailer, it slipped off and just kept going, hey my rope isnt that long i thought but i hadnt felt any pressure or snap, it had snapped like cotton, lucky for me the tide was going out and i just caught it as it drifted past the end off the pontoon, will replace every xmas from now on..

I got rid of that telstra line and bought some decent double braided rope, much easier on old hands and lasts forever.

What the Telstra rope let you down it’s good for life,I’ve still got some with the signature trace in it ,double it up or just get some 8 mm silver rope, I’ve got to do the same my decky left it on the bow and it fell off and went under the tyre and shredded the sheath of some nice yatchies rope I’ve had that for decades.

We use proper mooring line (we get ours from RTM), same as Dignity, easier on the hands, especially when the better half is holding it... also use it for crab pots for the same reason.

That Telstra rope disintegrates in the sun/weather, it just turns to powder.

...almost as though it is for hauling cable, not securing boats....

It is but it only gets used on the one job and tossed as it is a one shot wonder.

Best rope out there its tied down more stuff around Austraila that any other rope and lifted more crabs than any other rope too.

And probably lost more pots through failure, many an abandoned pot my end of the Passage with bits of telltale blue and yellow rope hanging off them, and you're not the only boatie having seen his boat free floating. I've used it myself but having to constantly replace it over the years I gave up, mind you a lot of cheap silver rope is no better.

Using good rope whether for mooring lines or crab pots can make all the difference.
Good mooring lines even store better and get less tangles as well as easier to hold onto, it's like once you have a leccy you wonder how you managed previously.

Cable hauling (Telstra rope) has basic UV stabilisation & is made from low quality cheap polypropylene ....... it's not meant to last

Compare that to docking line ....... chalk & cheese where the docking line lasts 10 years or more

    Chris

PS - oh & btw ...... there is Telstra rope & there is "Telstra rope" ....... a hell of a lot of cheap copies of the stuff that is not made to the Telstra specification - some of the stuff I've seen over the years degrades just by looking at it .

Yer in the cable tv days 1.5 million meters of cable hauled in over 12 mths and 4.5 million meters of rope booked out for the same time lol.
