Can only post when you have something mildly interesting to say, there was a bit of a spurt there for a while, but, that's just a slow drip now.

While researching new boats over the weekend, seen that Extreme have an infill panel that they use on the helm so that if you decide to change your set up later you can do it pretty easily, thought this was a great idea as I also hate drilling holes in anything.

Short break in the SE trades this week gave us SEQ fishos a chance to get out wide yesterday. Up at 3.30 to make the 4.30am launch from Manly clubhouse for the four boats going over South Passage bar on sunrise. Amity channel was navigable just before low tide with a 1.5m depth at the shallow point. Fished the cathedral and 35 fathom reefs east of North Stradbroke island float lining and bottom bashing in a 2-3 knot southerly current. It was hard to keep bottom with 10-12 knot northerly wind to contend with as well pushing the boat along at 3-4 knots over the marks, even with the sea anchor out. Not a memorable day, but managed to boat 4 keepers, one snapper, one pearl perch and two tuskies during the 7 hour session. Pretty hairy ride home with stronger northerlies (12-15 knots) and an ebb tide over the bar with pressure waves aft of beam. Absolute mayhem back at the ramp with 20-30 trailers trying to retrieve their boats in the public holiday queue. Home at 2pm for a late Australia Day beer and a rest. Cheers SS

    Stevej,
where are the holes being drilled? If it's on the transom, I like to sika Teflon onto the boat, then the screw holes into the Teflon, not the boat.

Whats going on 2 nights and note a bit of new stuff to read, cyclone off the coast anyone getting any wind yet,im hoping for some good swell to build up on the northen bribie island side of the new channel and swell take out more of the southen side and shorten up bribie island bit and get some more tidel flow into the northen end of the passage,it might make that end of the passage better for bream this winter.

Some of us havent been able to post for a while for some weird reason....Good way to put the forum out of its misery I suppose..

Trouble is I really dislike Facebook pages as the comments are just so full of people tagging other people and trolls posting dumb unfounded comments that seem to provoke pointless arguments ....there is no real avenue for actual discussion or sharing information and so much ego and one-upping involved...social media just continues to dumb down society and make disrespect for other peoples informed opinions normalised and instead of making a well thought out counter-argument, now if people dont agree with someone they often cant be bothered presenting another point of view and then it often just turns into a name calling contest or battle of the Ego.....Just too many keyboard warriors and armchair experts that think they are a lot smarter then they actually are and beleive way too much of what they read on social media.....Phew..I'm over it..

Totally agree on the social media side of things - particularly the destination / location ones. someone asks a legit question ...... then you get a list of smart assed replies .
I do say - I like the Facebook Barcrusher pages ....... lots of useful stuff , pose a question & you get good answers .

As for here ..... it is up to us to create the threads & discussions - be part of the solution .rather than wondering why no one is posting

Unfortunately it'll take more than a few storms to fix the old Caloundra Bar, the new Bribie Island Bar is ever changing, there is now a channel opening up on the nthn side of BIB with good flow starting to run into the most nthn part of the Passage, it's ab ever changing scenario. A lot of the issues was caused by a couple of locals who took it upon themselves to plant thousands of She Oaks on the northern tip of Bribie after cyclone Nancy changed things around at the tip. The tip of Bribie was like a sacrificial anode, it would shrink and grow with whatever nature threw at it. Once stabilised by the plantings things started to change rapidly.

I was talking to my mate at Caloundra, he went out the "new" entrance just after Australia Day and said it was good.

The new entrance is officially called Bribie Island Bar, needed to be official mainly due to rules and regs around life jackets, epirb's etc and it has been pretty good for quite a while. Just don't head for the old Pile Light base.
Did your mate catch any fish, heard it was a cracker of a day, unfortunately I was still convalescing.

He went after Spanner Crabs, said they were pretty scarce, had a quick fish for "a feed" never said anything about size or species. He went to go Australia Day, but the cars were lined up for a mile to use the Power Boat club ramp, so he went home and tried a day or so after.
