Re: Tagging Crab Pots - Fisheries
I guess in a strange twisted way, I/we break the rules every time we go crabbing, our "system" is, I drive the boat and hook the float with a boat hook, then pass it to the Deckie/grandson/wife to pull it in while I continue to drive the boat to prevent tangles and so on, but, I do pull them when it's my "turn" to do a run......

Re: Tagging Crab Pots - Fisheries
As it is mainly myself and either my wife or kids that go crabbing, we're right with the naming side as you only need to have the surname on the pot (in QLD), and even if there are 3 of us in the boat, I will still only run 6, maybe 8 pots, that's more than enough to carry and deal with.
My absolute hate on the tagging on pots is having to put your address on it. I've heard too many times of people having altercations in the waterway with others that are 'share farming' only to have them show up at their home address at a later date smashing windows or frightening the wife/kids.
Yep, we can all say "If they show up at my place they'll get theirs" but the two cases that I know of the man of the house wasn't home. I refuse to put my street number on it, and am happy to take any fine if it gets to that. There are now too many meth heads/low life's out there raiding our pots.
We don't crab much anymore, but when we do we no longer use floats just well hidden cord rope.

Re: Tagging Crab Pots - Fisheries
They changed the law here a while ago, no address, just name, postcode and date of birth (I guess to prove who in a family is using them) its a shame that it is the way it is, with people stealing stuff and raiding traps.
