Mercury CT & Yamaha High Thrust

    Looking at 440 / 449 Renegades / Outlaws.
Dealers are fitting these with CT / High Thrust variants of the motors packaged with them.
My belief was always that these larger gearbox variants were intended for the purpose mentioned by ranmar shown below.

What then are the benefits in fitting to planing monohulls?
Yes, the hulls are heavy and regardless of how much horsepower you fit, will never be speed machines in the class of a bass boat, but is there a real benefit unless carrying large loads?
Boat will be used mostly solo, occasionally 2 up and even less frequently 3 plus tackle etc.
Usage is most likely to be in an enclosed river / estuary system with an intention to tackle inshore oceanic waters when some confidence in this is gained.

You shouldn't be going with a high trust motor - not for those type of boats ....... it's a penalty not a benefit

My guess is that with limited stocks of outboards available - they are trying to offload these specialty motors which sell in low voumes & are likely here already or in warehouses around the world

I was at a major Quinny / Yamaha dealer just last week. Lots of Top enders & Renegades in the yard .... most sold but waiting for motors.

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

Thanks Chris, can you expand on why the liability?
    Just simply over kill?
    Or something else?
Your guess as to why makes a lot of sense

Liability is probably the wrong word

The motor will behave in the same fashion of not having the right prop ( low pitch) - the boat will be slower than it should be ..... & i'd dare say that there would be issues selecting the right prop . If this was used on a barge or pontoon they would probably have a bigger prop .

It’s a physically bigger gearcase so more drag less performance

the big prop also helps with braking and reverse thrust and mobility on heavy loads
