What about a Boston whaler Montauk then your options are running out.
Thanks Chris
Once again - that's a style of boat too similar to what I have now .
If I go down the path of a glass boat - it will be something like the Haines 485SF or SCB16 - there are a few other locally made lightweight fiberglass lboats like Hooker ,Bassco or CrossX country that I would also check out .......... But glass is not my preferred material hence why I said that I've put the 485SF out to the side .
481 Hornet Trophy is still the Benchmark for the exercise & I'll go have a chat to a dealer this weekend to see about pricing etc - so I know what to compare against .

There are a few other boats that are somewhere between a punt type & top ender that will be worth looking at

*Makocraft Commander 495 C Makocraft 490 Commander.jpg
All of these will be worth looking at as a new boat build & I'm sure there will be others .
I'm not in a rush & I'm probably 6 months away from making any commitment.

I called into one of Australias biggest Quintrex dealers yesterday to have a look for a new Hornet ...... Hmmm that didn't go well . None in stock & the senior sales guy said that they have not stocked one in around 3 years. Sales of Hornet's have basically fallen to near zero .... WTF
Apparently since the release of the Renegade ..... sales have moved from the hornets to the renegades ( it's significantly cheaper than a Hornet or Topender because of it's construction & design.
Quintrex still build the Hornet - so no issues there in getting one in 5-6 months .
With regards to the Hornet ( I am a fan) It was interesting to see how the HP rating has increased considerably since my 2006 480 (80hp max) . The current 481 as a package is sold with a 90 which would be pretty darn good . The hull is actually rated for a 115HP motor - that would absolutely fly. ...... think you'd want more than an 85 lt fuel tank though
Finally - the issues with the supply of motors ...... The guys are a Yammi dealer . Their yard was full of Boats - no motors . I was told that if you ordered a 150 Yammi right now .... you'd probably have it in Oct 2023 . most sizes are at around 6 months - which typically sees the hull arrive at the dealer well before the motor .
I had a good look over the hulls (topenders & renegades ) that they had & the build quality & welds looked OK ...... certainly nothing stood out as bad .
I'm going to go to another couple of dealers over the weekend - have a chat to them as well .

The new Stabi 1450 or 1550 might interest you....I am looking to upgrade my Renegade next year and these options come onto my own radar out of nowhere.

The other hulls to consider are the Crestliner and the Tracker, especially if you’re set on aluminium. They pop up in the second hand market from time to time and are usually priced very well compared to lesser quality boats, presumably because people don’t recognise the brand. Quality builds, heaps of storage, aluminium floors, waterproof hatches, ride well in chop. Probably pick up a FishHawk or Tracker Guide for half the close to half the price of a new hornet, and then you could go nuts on the electronics.
If I was looking for boat fishing the dams though, with your budget, it would be hard to past a good second hand glass bass boat. They are so good to fish out of.
Chris have you compared costs of getting one built..?

These are American boats aren't they ( I know the tracker) .
electronics are not an issue as I'll be using my existing minn kota & sounders - just move them from 1 boat to the other.
I've fished out of a few bass boats (skeeters , rangers , tritons & a tracker)....... no doubt great to fish out of & really quick . But just not keen on going a full blown tournament boat . The hornet does the some thing but is much lighter & as stable ...... has forward & rear casting . There no real advantage with going full blown bass boat . The other thing is the Hornet is better in skinny water . With a 115 on it - A hornet will fly. The other thing is that a boat like a Hornet is much easier to work on / modify .
Having already owned a 480 Hornet - I know their capabilities & limitations . Hence why it's the benchmark ....... but I will be looking at others .
I am watching the second hand market while I go through this exercise .

How many new location possibilities does this create?
Jack.
Personally I would go for the River Rocket with the 300hp rotax 50+ MPH and all casting deck and no prop.
