I’m doing some mental gymnastics trying to justify another $4K+ for another transducer.

$4K is just for the LVS62 tranny - then it's another $800 / $900 for the GLS black box

it's virtually double the price of the LVS43 tranny .

One of the things about this technology is that to be effective - you need relatively calm water ...... so it's limited in it's practical offshore use . I guess if you had the transducer transom mounted & in forward view or down view it could be good for offshore fishing . I'd certainly want to see it in use before I committed to spend that kind of coin for offshore fishing .though.

BOAT used to stand for "Bring on another grand" ..... not any more

Anyhow - completed the installation & decided to upgrade both sounders 1 x HDS16 live & 1 x HDS12 live . The HDS12 is set up with the Airmar TM260 transducer while the HDS 16 runs the Active Imaging Transducer & the Active Target transducer . ( both sounders networked)

With regards to the Active Target - I set it up on a ram mount in line with the console ( lets me control it whilst driving the boat) ..... It's turned out pretty good .
As the unit / pole is quite heavy I made up a bit of a cradle from a rubber trailer bow wedge & a piece of 5mm alloy bar screwed together then velcro'd to the gunnel (industrial velco) . Active target.jpg Active target 2.jpgSo now it's quite stable & wont jump around .
I'll also come up with something similar but in the boats side pocket for those longer trips when I want to remove the transducer & stow it.

With a little luck I'll get to dial everything in on the weekend .

Yep, not inexpensive ... gotta catch a lot of fish to make the ROI worth it!

    Or

look forward to hearing your thoughts

I'm heading down to Blowering dam for a few days over Easter & I'm really looking forward to using the Active target down there on the Cod & Yellas .
