Bargins today went into BCF and got a packet of daiwa SP for $2 should have been $5 on sale and normally sell for $11 so those prices are going down.
BCF regularly dumps end of line stocks really cheaply both in store and on Ebay....I bought up o several items being discontinued at amazingly low prices over the past decade or so.
Their Ebay dumping ground is always cheap.

Local Hinchinbrook charter guy upgrading his motor...the missus said he did have 30K on it but now its a bargain...
I wonder how much sand its dredged spending those hours around the shallow tide dependant hinchinbrook island area..
23K is what I paid for my Honda 200 new in mid 2019.

Evinrude going bust just before SHTF has had a bigger than expected impact on outboards since covid. I wonder if they’d had a crystal baIl if they’d have stayed producing a bit longer. Americans loved their DI 2 strokes before they went under. The majority moved to Merc because so many realised Yamaha was taking the piss in kind of the same way Toyota has been for a decade. I bet Suzuki toook a chunk of the market too.
Honda was the 4 stroke innovator but where are they now?
Democracy: Simply a system that allows the 51% to steal from the other 49%.
Evinrude going out of outboards was purely a market share decision, whether they were good or bad, their market share was very small, and the writing was on the wall for the bean counters, and for some reason, they never used any of the 4 stroke engines already available, the back room boys were too silly, stubborn or just plain dumb to see where everyone else was going. As well as prices going up, supply of everything is slow or non existent, I needed some simple antibiotics this morning, 3 Chemists didn't have them, there is a world wide shortage apparently.
The whole outboard industry world wide is somewhat complicated, BRP (Evinrude) were the only ones sticking with two strokes, their market share was very small, and the back room boys could see cash only, they had several 4 strokes available (that they still manufacture) but refused to budge. Yamaha has a huge market share, and in some ways, just keep mass producing motors and charging a premium for them, very little new technology has come from them. Mercury seem to be the trend setters, always something new in their lineup. Suzuki in some ways are quite new to the game, and seem to be taking chunks of the market all the time. Honda are very Japanese, very suit and tie, they just make a good product, no trumpets, no dancing girls, only change after decades of research. Tohatsu seem to be dipping more than just their toes in the market now. I seriously doubt any two strokes will ever be introduced again, manufacturing costs, tighter emissions, companies dropping them and poor reliability has seen a very sour taste in a lot of mouths.
For the Hondas ..had no probs with my Etec either mind you. Second Honda ive owned now and more than Happy.
As for current prices ?? , what isnt going up in Cost ??..
BRP followed the growing trend into PWC and light aircraft engines.
The death nail was the states dropping 2 strokes....killing off their main markets well ahead of their scheduled forecasts.
BRP was in trouble for the two decades before they dropped the outboards.
My current outboard is a Honda, very happy with it.
I had the option of Suzuki or Yamaha as well....neither of those fill me with confidence.

Not quite right, no one "dropped" 2 strokes (well, everybody except BRP did) etecs easily complied with emission regulations, but the masses just weren't buying them, sales were bad and falling every quarter, why? Who knows, bad memories from the FICHT days? Problems! Bad dealers? BRP produces plenty of 4 stroke engines that would have been an easy conversion to outboards, but, "they" never made the change, they just walked away.

Without derailing this into a 2 stroke V 4 stroke thing, I personally think if BRP had of introduced a 4 stroke, possibly marketed under the Johnson name for a start, which would then give them a foot on both sides of the fence, they would probably have picked up market share (and that's what counts) sales figures were published many times for all manufacturers, and in numbers, BRP ranked near the very bottom, only Honda had less numbers, but, were increasing every quarter, where Evinrude were falling. Honda numbers did not include motors sold under the Tohatsu name. As time rolls on, I can see Mercury taking top place, Yamaha has the name without doubt, but, as it stands, they are standing still in development, and in a way, who can blame them? Most manufacturers can't make engines quick enough to meet demand, mainly through parts supply issues at manufacturing level, add to that shipping delays, rising interest rates, Covid and a dozen other out of control things, the world is in a dizzy spin right now.
As I mentioned before BRP just kept producing rubbish - too many issues going all the way back to the FICHT motors .
Going back in time - Evinrude / Johnston brands were market leaders & there was a lot of loyalty that carried over into the ETEC era . Yes 2 stroke power to weight ratios were significantly better which also helped with sales ...... the problem was ( well documented) the ongoing issues ..... & even a decade later with the Gen 2 there were still problems .
In the meantime Suzuki & Yamaha developed their 4 stroke motors & some like the Yammi F70 actually had a better power to rate than the 75 ETEC .
Mercury developed their 4 strokes (2014 onward) now being up there with Yamaha & Suzuki ..... some say better.
The most disappointing would have to be Honda ...... they were world beaters with their VTEC development but just like Toyota they sat on their laurels & the world past them by . ( both marine & auto) . I'm not saying Honda are bad - quite the opposite ...... they have just sat idle . Critical mass is a killer ..... & they are being outsold significantly .

I have a bit of a feeling that Honda might be about to raise the bar a bit, going up to more HP and refining their lineup of smaller offerings, this is just based on "gossip" from a dealer I know well, and rumblings from other makers too. They have the technology, I can't think of any other manufacturer that could compete in F1 like Honda did/does. Suzuki and Yamaha both have years of high RPM motor bike history/technology to fall back on. BRP has decades of snow mobile, aircraft and JetSki experience, in both 2 and 4 stroke, plus had one of the biggest brand names (well two actually Evinrude and Johnson) to sell, but failed miserably.
