Tried but failed boat.jpg
i mean here in victoria we are no stranger to the formula/haines hunter tax........i trully dont see the appeal in the insane dollars that people invest in these old boats lol
Had a few trips out wide with the Mates Fomular 223 and whilst it is agreed they ride good in sloppy weather they still are overpriced far as im concerned and in that size i would prefer Alloy any day not only for their forgivness but dont have to worry about rot etc..
Yes they are Popular no disputing that and they bring a good seeling price if in good nik..
There must be enough of a market for them as Haines Hunter build their old school knock-off Southern Formula brand now..
My local Quintrex dealer has taken on Haines Hunter now and has had a Southern Formula 21 demo boat in there for a while now....
formula.jpg
Its very basic inside and out and apparently has a slighly less deadrise then the Edencraft Formulas but still that 40 year old retro look.....cant see what all the fuss is about myself....
Their pricing is rather interesting as well...they sure know how to make their customers feel special....

I owned one it was vomit inducing at rest
in any sensible weather it was the best riding hull I’ve had.
with the price of fuel these days unless you have four strokes the fuel bill would be insane as we would use 200 plus litres every time we went out.
But back to the post 25k for that pile of shit is why it’s still for sale
it’s a 60k rebuild
and a ltd falcon isn’t going to tow it
they are rollypolly in the water. average to poor build quality. multiple clients have had legal issues over them. save your money and buy a caribbean. lol
there’s a similar fan club with Shark Cats. From the old days on these pages where you could pick up an 18’ or 23 Sharky for chips and do it up to be a weapon of a boat, the prices have exploded. He only difference is, I can see why the Sharkcats have a fan club. Outside of maybe straight line speed for the given HP. The Shark Cat pretty much eats the formula in almost every department.
Democracy: Simply a system that allows the 51% to steal from the other 49%.
What do you consider as ‘exploded’. I picked up a good shark cat 560 with transom and floors done with good condition trailer and Yamaha 115 saltwaters in amazing nic for 25k. Sold the donks for 10k combined so got the hull and trailer for 15k. I thought 25 k was reasonable…. That being said my rebuild on it will cost me prob 45k with just parts and not costing my labour.
Some of the shark cats and Kevlacat I’ve seen for sale over the past 3 years were 50-100% higher than what you’d have paid in 17-19.

Think the owner was asking so much because it had work done by a shipwright it was gutted and new stringers laid in, im nit sure if its still for sale
The bloke also had a couple 200hp 2 stroke mercs for it
The F233 may be appealing to a lot of boat owners as a 23-24ft boat is about as big as u wanna go in a trailerable size boat a single person can load up, tow and than launch by him self
If j had one i would just change my style of fishing possibly troll lures alday instead of drifting due to the rocky hull
Just as a idea if one put 2x 250hp 4 strokes on a F233 you could idle around all day trolling live yakkas and squid for say 5 litres and hour being a big boat does not mean fishing has to be expensive and driven to extremes or like a wild turkey
That sounds logical - change the style of fishing you do because of the boat
Maybe it's better to buy a boat that suits your style of fishing ?

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!
