    Suzuki DF140BG fuel burn figures

I’ve been googling for hours & can’t find any real tests for fuel burn on the Suzuki DF140BG, can anyone who has tried them out share some figures? I’m looking at getting a cat built & want to be sure the fuel tank capacity will get me to the outer reef & back with a few days running around. I’m definitely going Suzuki due to the fly by wire controls so comparisons to other brands isn’t helpful to me at this stage.

Count on around 2km / lt @ 4500 rpm ...... that is pretty typical for the 140 but every boat & configuration / wt is different .

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

I found the 140 ok with a light load, around 1.8km per litre. Found it pretty terrible when heavy, around 1km per litre.

Bugger, that's what I used to get with my Yamaha 250! I'm planning on twin 140's on a cat so even with all my gear they shouldn't be working that hard.

I went from a single 225 4.2 yammy using getting about 0.9km per litre to twin suzuki df 140 A's now getting 1.2km per litre combined. Boat 6.8 riptide platey. Yammy was my first choice, great grunty motor but thirsty. Suzi 140's are very toppy, getting prop slection right is the key, imo its very important that you can hit the rev limiter on them if you try hard enough (you then have the right prop). For me low down grunt is not as important when you have twins since you are spinning such a big blade area. When i went to twins my first choice was 115 mercs (great spec i recon) but ended up witht the zukes basis availability and price, i'm happy so far but you have to get the prop right on them is my advice.

    Hello Heliduck,

what size cat are you getting?
    Here's a start
    https://thetinnieshack.com.au/outboa...ce-tab=perf-32

My brother upgraded from a Jonsuzuki 115 to a Suzuki 140 on his platey and found almost no noticable improvement in performance, maybe consider 115's.
This was about 8 years ago, there may be newer model 140's since then.
Back then a Suzuki 140 was in fact 128 hp, as tested by US govt Environment agency.

What size and type of cat you installing them on?

I have a few mates who own variety of cats and have some good fuel figures.
I also owned half a dozen cats with variety of engine configs.

Id suggest if its on a 6.2m KC or less in weight, Id be expecting 1.3 to maybe 1.4km/l when running on lean burn. I had a 23noosacat with 150AP suzukis and id get /1.2km/l when running lean burn and calm conditions.

I've seen the comment before about there being little difference in performance between the 115 and 140 suzuki's on the same hull. They are after all the same block, just make the extra HP by revving out harder, meaning, while you should get a little more top speed, the actual engine rpm at a given cruise speed may be the same.

All this speculation is pointless unless you mention the hull. I have owned a glacier bay with 140hp suzukis and got 1.1 km/l on average however and now have a planing cat... each hull is different....

props, fishing weight, cruising speed will all play a part in your economy... give us something to work with....

So moda, sailfish? What’s the hull? Can’t U get data off the manufacturer? They would have to have the most data and usually ask the motor suppliers to run tests and record data upon comissioning.

I’m asking what fuel burn figures have on THEIR boat, not mine. If you don’t have a DF140BG or similar experience then scroll past & get over it.

Righto mate- forget it. I’ve had Suzuki 140s myself on my previous cat which I sold recently and was trying to get info on your hull to help you out with range and fuel required but forget it. Your original question was guaging range and all my fishing is out of 1770 so I know conditions and what fuel is required. I’ve clearly hit a nerve with you but I’ll button up. I’ll tap out here and leave you and you to your own research. Good luck with the tyre kicking….

And to simplify my post - 140s will perform differently on each cat hull….
