    Simrad Auto Pilot - Controller Panel

    Hi all.

    For the Simrad Auto Pilot setup, can it be operated via the integrated NSS Evo3S MFD and not through the separate AP44 Autopilot Controller Display?

    I don’t want to cut another hole in the dash panel if I don’t have to.

    Yes 100% can control through the MFD - works very well.

    Thanks.

    Do you use the Simrad AP setup?

    Thoughts, tips, traps for install?

    What is the remote control unit used for?

    Yes I have NSS12 Evo 3 with a NAC2 computer. Same hyd motor set up. I am also running the BT remote plus an OP12 for redundancy if the MFD has issues. Thoughts, don’t get the Precision 9 compass. For a little bit more grab the HS60 GPS compass and you wont have to worry about magnetic interference.

    install is pretty easy but you need to either get someone with the Seastar bleeder system or purchase one of the aftermarket systems that lets you bleed the air properly. That is the biggest issue - air in the system. I bought one of these for my kit;

    I have the remote on a lanyard so I can move the boat around while fighting a fish. Seriously wouldn’t be without one on any boat.

    Awesome stuff! Thank you.

    Do you use the stand alone separate controller panel for the AP or do you integrate AP into your existing MFD?

    Both, they are all networked nmea2k. it just hands over control from whatever unit you are using.

    Your thoughts and recommendations on both units?

    If you got the dash space and the money - why not but not needed if you are going to run a Simrad MFD
