I have read elsewhere that removable hitches on trailers can be installed to assist security when not in use?
Anyone has this on their trailer? Thoughts and recommendations?

It might slow some down, but there have been incidencences of trailers fitted with hitch locks just being towed away on the safety chainsSo they would need to be removable as well. I use a good hitch lock, but all they need is a few minutes with a battery powered angle grinder and that's off. Old security methods revolved around making it impossible to get bolt cutters on, or using cable, which was impervious to bolt cutters--battery powered angle grinders put an end to that.

Either put up with a trailer that no one is likely to steal or have good insurance..like ranmar says, if the thief wants it he will get it...just read your insurance to make sure you have complied with the fine print..ie if it states you need to put a hitch lock on then do it ..Originally Posted by Splash
At the ramp, I make sure I reverse the trailer up against something so that it can't be removed, if I don't have that option, just rely on padlock, which as said, can be overcome with battery grinders. While I'm travelling, or remote, I mount a trail camera nearby. This won't stop the theft, but I'll get a good idea on who it was, and have something to show insurance.
Nowadays, you can only really slow them down, or make it as hard as you can and hope they take someone else's that is easier and quicker.

There's nothing to stop them these days. They will just put the trailer onto their towball, wrap the chains around and tow it to where they can then spend time doing it properly. As corry suggested a camera of some sort. I've been looking at dash cams, especially where there is a rear vision one with parking mode, the issue I have with them is the limited amount of recording time as they get higher quality lens. At home I depend on my security cameras.
Like Corry - I back my trailer against something ... like a post , fence , tree etc ....... that makes it too difficult or near impossible (without moving the car) .
A wheel clamp - is a further deterrent
As has been mentioned - if a thief wants your trailer he will probably get it ..... .you just want to make it more difficult

i use a decent hitch helmet and a wheel clamp at home and the ramp
you insurance will insist on it anyway to cover you
Wheel clamp, mate showed me how to remove one in seconds. Most deterrents are purely visual for the opportunistic thieves and not the serious ones.
