That’s the biggest thing running against Alvey. Beach, Blackfish, Whiting. It’s a great reel that you hose off and it last a lifetime.

Never done much beach work but since I sold the boat my ABUs have been dormant. I tried repurposing my 5000 rocket a few years back...bought an overhead beach rod. Hard to get one up here. Anyway I thought I knew how to use baitcasters but that was an experience. The good casts were jaw dropping but the bad ones were dire. Great respect to anyone who has mastered it. I guess that's another advantage of the Alvey.

Daiwa Sensor Surf's are very good overhead rods for beach fishing. I use overheads almost exclusively for beach fishing. Mainly 6500's and 7000's. They are quite hard to backlash if you have all the brake blocks fitted. Oiling them every 4 trips or so helps as well.
