Floor Screws
just a heads up for anyone with a wooden floor and carpeted which may be screwed down.. Witnessed a mate of mine doing a floor removal and replacement and the trouble he had with the screws being siezed to the Alloy!!..
So gave me a heads up to remove all the screws on my decking and duralac them back down..
Actully a tad short on the Duralac so used some lanolan greese in its place ..
Will do again though they say theres some new stuff (White) which is supposed to be better than Duralac even ??..
Also did so inprep for a new sounder going onto the rig soon hopefully so will have to get under the floor where i presume the other transducer is residing ??..

Re: Floor Screws
Yes, s/s self tappers will certainly sieze in ali. Any sort of grease will help, really--thin stuff like Inox, etc, will wash out, but lanoguard grease is as good as anything in saltwater. I used to use it on the 1/2' studs welded to the craypot bottoms the pot anodes were fitted to ( before the pot builders started putting stainless studs in) --black steel bolts with black steel nuts. Let them dry out in the off-season, they'd likely shear before they undid. Lanoguard didn't bother the crays , and the nuts always undid easily. I've been following a sailing channel for a while now, including a major refit, and the bloke used lanoguard on all his stainless fittings, said they would never gall , the biggest enemy of stainless.
