    Who pays for fishing information

These days it appears that every man & their dog is canvassing that we should subscribe to their youtube site ( they earn by subscriptions & views) or they want you to pay .... via patreon

Then we have those that are offering online courses ..... There are some reasonably well known who are putting up courses with a sizable price tag .

Are there those here that have put their hand in their pockets & stumped up what could be several hundred dollars

Has anyone actually paid the bucks & said yeh , that was worth it ?

    Keen to hear your thoughts

    Chris
Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

Never have paid but been to some great seminars on the Gold Coast at Doug Bert’s tackle store ,he has them regularly on what is about to come on the chew . Best one was a 2 hr session with Peter Pakula he is a wealth of information and when he’s finished you feel really confident about what to do . Another bloke here in Brisbane is Neil from Jonses Tackle at Chermside he dosent charge either and is another knowledgeable fisherman as is his wife , and I have a couple of blokes I know that have Facebook pages that give out a heap of local information. Yeh , I've been to a few of these talks over the years but that's not the kind of thing that I'm referring to - I'm talking about the online stuff where you pays hundreds of dollars ... like for example a Ryan Moody course or a Johnny Mitchell one
I see Andys Fishing has just released one .

Does anyone pay youtubers via Patreon ?

Fishing is a recreational passion n passtime not ta mention how much free advice you can find online akin to what Chris mentioned..
Someone wants to cash in on their percieved knowledge , "Good on em " not this little ducky im afraid ..
And as for those mentioned above ?? would you really have the time for instance to cover halfe the distances and places to catch extra Fish???n for what reason ??...

Plenty of people use Ryan Moody and Scotty Mitchells pay to view sites but not me , some of the inside info they espouse is readily available if you look hard enough for free . That’s the bonus of being on sites like Ausfish and looking on Facebook and YouTube, but for those that need the info that they don’t understand I guess it’s a way of finding the info you need to be successful in your fishing Endevours .
It’s the reason I did a running commentary last year on Cooktown as the info I was looking for was limited and being a member here I thought it was worth posting something a bit more relevant to the times and someone may find it useful when searching the site for info . Matt

Re: Who pays for fishing information

I've looked at the RM ones, then fell over when I seen the price. I've spoken around and asked a few questions from those that did lash out and do it, and my take is they were more saying it was worthwhile to justify what they've spent. I've got a fishing buddy that is doing one soon, I'll get him to give the feedback as to whether it was worth while or not.
Personally, I believe that it is a lot like porn, there is enough of it floating around the interwebs that you don't have to pay for it, but that's coming from someone who hasn't paid for any of it, so I might be wrong

Someone gave me a Johny Mitchell dvd once to look at and i did not learn a single thing,he talked a lot but gave you nothing other than cryptic puzzel's to work out yourself, and it only took me one night up Monduran dam watching someone catching them in front of the boat i was on too work it out.

So paying for info sometime don't pay off,im glad i did not spend the money on that dvd.

Re: Who pays for fishing information

Yep I paid coin to learn fingermark with Ryan Moody as I was planning to use it around Turkey Beach. Unfortunately I dont go up there enough to put the plans into practice. Is it, was it worth it? Probably. If I had my I would do the threadfin one. Why did I do it? To see what I can do better. Some of it I was already doing, but some I wasn't. For many of us, it's go fishing when the window appears, so some of the plans are not viable but while I cant say I caught more fingermark, it did give me some other options about trying different things whenI do manage to get some tin underfoot.

Re: Who pays for fishing information

I have just finished Ryan Moody's sounder course 1 & 2. I didn't realise how much I did not know about what a sounder was showing me. I was interpreting certain readings wrong
and when explained it started to make more sense. Half the course I had a good handle on before but the other half was invaluable to me. So was it worth it yes.
He has other courses that I won't do because of the price, if they were half the price he would probably sell 10 times the courses which would make more financial sense especially for him.
You don't know what you don't know until you know.

Re: Who pays for fishing information

Anyone prepared to share the price of the course or provide a range? I don’t have a problem with people wanting to charge for this type of thing providing the quality is good. I would be happy to pay a reasonable price to learn, up-skill myself and improve my fishing. I find it more rewarding to do some homework and catch a fish than doing a charter and being put on the fish.

Definitely agree, if they weren't so costly, there'd be more that would do it.
