    Min Kota Powerdrive Issue

The Minn Kota 55Lb bow mount went on a little over a year ago and it’s been faultless. Wouldn’t be without one again.

A few days back I took the boat for a spin for a couple of hours and used the spot lock for maybe an hour all up. Came home, washed and flushed the boat and put it back in the shed.

The next day came out to the shed to find the TM spinning at about half revs while in the stowed position. Only way to stop it spinning was to isolate the power from it. Came back today and reset the circuit breaker with it still in the stowed position. It beeped, looked like it was going through some sort of start up process and went back to spinning not stop while stowed.

I can’t put the TM into the down position without launching the boat to see if that will solve the issue. Has anyone come cross this before?

Strange indeed..I cant help you with the problem except say that sometimes I have to do a reset with the MG....but I have found it a good idea to trip the circuit breaker after the days fishing anyway as one time when I didnt, I had a plug with some corrosion issues burn out and melt while the boat was parked in the driveway which could have started a fire..

It does sound strange - I'm guessing a mother board issue .

I'm also one for tripping the breaker at the end of the day .....

was the green power light on ?

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

I normally leave it isolated at the breaker after every trip but hadn’t got to it yet. Rang the service people and they told me I had to bring it in for repair. Said there had to be a short somewhere.

Do you have foot pedal as well as hand held remote? If so could be something leaning on it or pedal faulty try unplugging it. Also try removing battery from remote.

If you have a foot pedal check the cable for damages...most likely a crush injury to the cable and a little moisture.

No foot pedal. Got onto the service guys. They said there has to be a short somewhere in the mother board. It’s back with the shop to be sent Monday. Looks like there will be no inshore fishing next week. Fingers crossed I can pick up some impellers for DF140’s on Monday and I can get off shore Tuesday.
