Gasket sealant for fuel sender

Hi all, I have a question for the brains trust.

I'm re-installing the fuel sender unit on my boat's alloy fuel tank. I'm not sure what type of sealant was used by the manufacturer. The sender is located in the centre of the top of the tank so it will be constantly exposed to petrol when the tank is more than say three quarters full. The boat trailer is parked on a slope at home and I often refill the tank straight after use so it is usually full.

I already have some permatex form-a gasket sealant #80016 (non hardening). The instructions state "Resists common shop fuels" but doesn't specifically mention any uses on fuel tanks with constant exposure to petrol. Is this suitable to use as a gasket/sealant or is there something better out there?

I suspect what you have will be fine, the one I used is Permatex form a gasket sealer, non hardening. Don't use Stag paste as recommended by some people as it does go hard.

+1 for Peramatex form a gasket. Can't say I've used it on a fuel tank but have in inlet manifolds, carbs, mechanical pumps....
Goes on every oil drain plug in the last 30 years time after time.
Used to rebuild 2 stroke kart engines in the 80's just using that.

Quintrex sealed all the fittings on my tank with a red gel type liquid which was still wet when I installed the tank

nothings leaked out of it so just work

I have a tube of stag for anything non flexible has sealed up a dozen vintage cars fuel systems and a bunch of alloy boat tank senders

Thanks for the replies. I chickened out on using the Permatex form-a gasket, even though from your information it would have been okay. I found another Permatex product, Permashield gasket dressing and sealant #85420, which claims in big letters to be fuel resistant and also comparable to Hylomar Universal Blue. (No idea what Hylomar is but google tells me this is the bees knees gasket stuff that OEM car makers use.)

Anyway I found a small tube of Permashield #85420 at Supercheap at twice the price of the Permatex form-a gasket. Sender unit is now installed. If the Permashield gasket leaks fuel I will let you know that I should have listened to your advice.

A good product to use on fuel sender gaskets is Threebond RTV silicon liquid gasket.
