Marine Carpet that doesn't hold hooks

Hi all. Aside from Marine Tuft which is quite $$ has anyone found a supplier of Marine carpet that won't hold trebbles like crazy? The Whitworths type closed loop is very hard wearing but the hooks don't like coming out. Cheers

I'm about to re-do the floor in our boat so interested to see what replies you get. My other boat I just did with normal carpet same as what it had new, never really had too many issues of hooks being hard to get out, and we predominantly lure fished.

This looks good but is about three times the price of standard marine carpet. Cheers Winston.

I don't mean to hijack, but, has anyone had any experience with the Eva foam? I haven't seen it in person, would have thought this stuff wouldn't hold onto hooks.

Which is like this stuff? https://www.formasign.com.au/product/u-tread-z/ I haven't found it to be prone to staining, but, if you do get one, a cheap pressure cleaner removes it easily. Mine has done a couple of hard years, looks like new.

I have the Ultradot about 5 years old now and looking a bit dirty. Spoke to the manufacturers in NZ and they said to use Napi San oxidization formula but it really hasn't helped. It'll probably last another year or two so I'm not in a hurry to replace it yet.

Re: Marine Carpet that doesn't hold hooks

i have a fair bit of experience with flooring. heres my take

Years ago we had Seadek. we used it on our swim platforms for an american brand of wake/ski boat that we were the dealers for.. and later we started to use it in the floors. on the swim platforms etc on those boats.. we didnt hav many issues. often because they were low trafic areas... the boats were used infrequently "summer for a bit. maybe easter for a bit" they were always covered with good quality bag covers or inside. But places where eskys has been sitting did leave impressions etc in the floor. there wasnt many things onboard those boats that would cause much of a mess either,

a little while later we started to put it into fishing boats. we noticed some issues pretty quickly..... things like eskys.. or dive bottles etc would leave deep imprints in the flooring. it was though soft under foot and that was nice. But we also then entered the world of blood, squid ink, oils, etc. a lot of which did leave stains that were hard to get out.. and walking over said areas would push it further into the foam. on top of that.........alot of our fibreglass boats had shiney white gell coat interiors this would reflect the sun and cause hot spots to form causing melting in certain areas. "light amplification.. all brands now dont honor warranties when this occurs"

The material itself shrinks, so you couldnt butt join the panels..otherwise obvious gaps would then form.. so in the design you would work around this. however as the material shrank it would leave the glue residue on the floor which would attract dust and dirt and muck etc.. making it rather obvious.

after those issues we persued a different material. and thats when Ultralon came a long with Udeck. We were the Victorian Udeck supplier/installer for some time this PE based flooring was firmer and said t o only have 1% shrinkage. so we had higher hopes.. though it still suffered similar issues as sea deck... we tried Melors, Deck Armor.. all the same

About 6 years ago we became the agent for Glastron ski boats, And they from the factory were using Seagrass flooring... which appealed to us so we became dealers for the material... Its a woven vinyl on a closed cell foam backing.. it comes in roll/length like carpet. which makes it more cost effective than panels like Seadeck.

The woven vinyl means it doesnt obsorb heat as much. making it a lot COOLER under foot. non slip "not as much as the foam but still very good" available in patterns/ colours "but you cant CNC rout any designs into it" it can be aheared to the floor.. or most people chose to have it just press studded in. so it can be removed to be cleaned.. or changed when you get sick of the pattern.

oh.. and doesnt get hooks stuck in it or hold smell like carpet does

So if you dont want to spend the big bucks and go for something liek Eshtec

Then i would recomend Infinity seagrass flooring

Re: Marine Carpet that doesn't hold hooks

Thanks lads. The Seagrass looks great but this is a basic open side console tinny and the cost is prohibitive. The Whitworths type carpet is very hard wearing and I have had it in multiple boats with success and it is cheap. Only drawback for my application is the fact that hooks hook onto it. Mostly I can finesse them out with pliers. For me tbe extra costs of Seagrass or Marine Tuft carpet just won't be worth it. Thanks again all. Appreciate all the input.

    Cheers
