    What anti-sieze?

    Hello All,

I have decided on a DIY annual service on my 60hp 2 Stroke Yamaha.

What is a good anti-sieze for the water pump bolts and the top of the driveshaft?

I have done this service before on smaller motors, but I am a bit out of practice.

YouTube offers advice of varying quality.

The good news is that the gearshift rod has a star shape, like a Tork, so no fiddling with tiny screws etc.

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks

I've always just used a thin smear of grease on the threads
Same as I do for any bolt going into alloy whether it's a motorbike or an outboard and never had a problem with it
Some anti sieze compounds are not good for alloy I believe

Nickel based antisieze if it is going on stainless bolts.
    Jack.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Permatex has copper in it, which might a problem in aluminium.

    How about marine grease?

I've read good things about MolyPaste for stainless bolts into aluminium. No experience with it yet but that's what I have here for my rebuild. Molybdenum disulphide, nickel and bentone - no graphite, copper or lead.

Duralac and Tef-Gel are highly rated for galvanic protection of small fasteners but I'm not sure about torqued-up bolts.

Yeh that might be but they make a nickle based product with no copper in it for this application..

Lanolin grease makes a good poor man's anti sieze and also has a few other uses around a boat.

Duralac used to be the go for dissimilar metals.

Lanolin is as good as anything and won’t introduce any extra galvanic issue.
